Belize Observes Global Handwashing Day 2020

The Ministry of Health through the HECOPAB Unit in collaboration with the WASH Multi-sectoral Body is observing Global Handwashing Day in Belize today, October 15, 2020. This year’s theme is “Hand Hygiene for All,” and is a call to action for institutions and individuals to improve hand hygiene efforts during the COVID-19 pandemic.  

Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office and PAHO/WHO collaborate to strengthen the ports of entry in Belize

As part of an ongoing efforts to strengthen Belize’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic at ports of entry, the Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO) and the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, previously known as the Development and the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (DFID), donated 100 safety vests and four (4) Samsung Smart LED TVs to the Ministry of Health.

Ministry of Health Launches the Belize Drug Formulary

The objective of the formulary is to serve as a guide list of drugs for the country’s current health situation. In addition, the formulary will assist in the procurement, treatment, and monitoring of drugs for the country’s health system. For medical professionals, the list will serve as a guide to determine the best prescriptions for patients based on pre-existing conditions. The Ministry also anticipates that this guide will help determine the inventory of drugs as the list categorizes the drug as vital, essential, or necessary for the country.

Vulnerable Groups Encouraged to get Seasonal Flu Vaccine

The Ministry of Health informs the public that the seasonal flu vaccine for 2020 to 2021 is now available for specific at-risk groups: children six to 23 months; adults 65 years and older; health care workers; and persons with heart or lung disease including asthma and chronic conditions such as diabetes, kidney conditions, and HIV.

Belize and Cuba Sign Cooperative Health Agreement

Minister of Health, Hon. Pablo Marin and Ambassador of Cuba for Belize, H. E. Lissette Pérez Pérez, signed the 2020-2021 Cooperative Health Agreement in a brief ceremony held in Belmopan on October 5, 2020. The signing is a testimony of the 25-year longstanding health relationship between Belize and the Republic of Cuba. Through this relationship, Belize continues to benefit from training and capacity building of its human resources, as well as programs to promote health education in the community.

Ambergris Caye’s COVID-19 active cases down to 62; returnees reminded to follow mandatory self-quarantine

With the number of active cases on Ambergris Caye down significantly, those who are returning home from abroad are especially reminded to comply with self-quarantine rules or be subject to prosecution and fines.
