PAHO urges countries to maintain vaccination during COVID-19 pandemic

On the cusp of Vaccination Week in the Americas, countries need to take innovative safety measures to strengthen flu and measles vaccination to avoid an added burden of vaccine-preventable diseases.

Government’s Response to Wildfire Situation

The public is hereby advised on the situation with wildfires across the country and updated on the work being done by the Government of Belize. The Forest Department, the Department of the Environment (DOE) and other agencies including the Fire Department, the Belmopan City Council, the San Ignacio Town Council, and ranger volunteers such as the Southern Wildfire Group, continue to collaborate to actively address the ongoing fires.

Belize Celebrates World Malaria Day in the Midst of Response to COVID-19

According to the World Health Organization's (WHO) World Malaria Report 2019, there were no global gains in reducing new infections over the period 2014 to 2018. In 2018, there were an estimated 228 million cases of malaria in 89 countries. The estimated number of malaria deaths in 2018 stood at 405,000, a similar number to the previous year.

Public Transportation Protocol for COVID-19

Even though Belize is not in a heightened state of emergency, the public is still encouraged to plan ahead and consider travelling outside rush hours, where possible, in an effort to promote social distancing. As recommended by the World Health Organization, passengers must keep three to six feet apart from each other when standing in line. This can reduce the possibility of person-to-person transmission of the virus.

Ministry of Health Requests Public Support

The Ministry of Health advises the public that due to the recent and ongoing bush and backyard fires set by some individuals, many persons have reported side effects such as irritated eyes, prolonged coughing spells, and worsening of existing breathing problems.

Government of Belize considers easing restrictions in National State of Emergency

The current nationwide restrictions in place due to COVID-19 in Belize may be eased up significantly after Saturday, April 25th, according to Rt. Hon. Dean Barrow.

USA provides assistance to Belize to respond to COVID-19

USA, via USAID, has committed USD$300K to support these priority areas for investment: infection prevention, case management and surveillance and rapid response in the battle against COVID-19.

MOH confirms two recovered COVID-19 patients in Belize

Belize's Ministry of Health has officially announced 1 recovered COVID-19 patient as of April 21st. There are no new cases reported since Monday, April 13th.
