Miss Grand Belize, a franchise of Miss Grand International, will be hosting its first ever pageant in August, in which the winner will travel to Phu Quoc, Vietnam, and participate in the international pageant on October 25th. 76 countries participated last year in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA, and additional countries have been added to compete this year, including Belize.
Pageant director Enrique De León is currently tasked to find potential beauty ambassadors. De León told The San Pedro Sun that he is looking for interested females around Belize to apply for the pageant. As he intends to have representatives from all over Belize, he has been posting open castings online.
The criteria states that the applicant must be natural born female, single, never been married or pregnant, between the ages 17-26, at least five foot five inches in height, possess a minimum of a high school diploma, and must be fluent in English. Miss Grand Belize duties will include visiting schools across the country, children’s homes, hospitals, and becoming very active within the Human Development Department.
The pageant goes beyond the concept of beauty, as De León stated that the objective of this pageant is to end war. “Belize is no stranger to war, since we are inclusive of drug war, gang war, domestic violence, and human trafficking. It’s the pageant’s mission to bring awareness of world peace, and to stop war, along with violence. It is our duty worldwide to get rid of the world of conflict, and use our efforts to improve the quality of life for all humanity,” said De León.
He said that there will be plenty of responsibilities given to the winner, and he will make sure that the newly crowned Miss Grand Belize will be using this platform to create a campaign, spread awareness, and become a spokesperson in this field. As the final night will highlight their swimwear, costume, evening gown and questions and answer segment, De León hopes to prepare the winner in all aspects, and put Belize on the map.
