Police Report: Counterfeit Currency reported

On the 30th of November 2011, The Belize Bank, San Pedro Branch personnel contacted San Pedro Police informing that a suspicious US $100 note bearing serial number CI1821531OABZ was turned in at the bank by a customer and suspected it to be counterfeit. A review of the security features on the note revealed that indeed the note was not genuine. The note was withheld and handed over to San Pedro Police for investigation. The origin of the note is yet to be determined.
San Pedro Police would like to inform business owners that in this time of heightened trade involving visitors, extreme care should be taken when receiving currency as the possibility of counterfeit circulation WILL be present.
