The official handing over of a 2003 Ford Ranger extra cab pickup truck to the San Pedro Police Department (SPPD) came after a generous donation from Mahogany Bay Village. The company has been very involved in the community by assisting different organizations in various ways. On Thursday, August 18th, Pete Davis represented the donor organization and had the honour of handing over the vehicle to Deputy Officer in Charge of the Coastal Executive Unit, Superintendent Henry Jemmott.
The addition of the new vehicle to the present fleet was welcomed by Jemmott, who indicated that the characteristics of the vehicle will make it very efficient in their patrols. “The durability of this vehicle will enable us to continue improving our patrols, south and north of the island,” said Jemmott. According to him, vehicles are always a huge necessity for the force, and since the island continues to grow at a rapid pace, the need to increase their patrol coverage is another challenge the police face. “It is important to notice the support of the community and as well, this shows the good relationship between the business community and the police,” said Jemmott. He further stated that any donations given to the police, in this case a vehicle is utilized to ensure the safety of all residents of the island and the well-being of San Pedro Town.
The recent records in crime, according to the police, have been decreasing for the past two years. This success has been possible due to the joint cooperation of the community with the police, and the vehicular donation. The increase in their fleet has improved their response time to emergencies, and such an achievement could not have been possible without the assistance of the business community, along with the community at large.
Davis expressed satisfaction in being able to assist whenever possible, stating that the police is one organization with which Mahogany Bay Village has a good relationship. “We like to give back to the community in any way we can, especially when it involves projects that are a priority for the benefit of the island. We are more than happy to assist in any way possible,” said Davis. “The police needed an extra mobile for their patrols and we made the arrangements for them to obtain it.” He commented that the company has been privileged to assist the Fire Department as well and in the recent natural disasters affecting the island they have also been there to assist in the recovery process of Ambergris Caye.
“We are part of the community, and we will continue working together and provide our input everywhere possible,” stated Davis.
After the official handing over, Assistant Superintendent Jemmott presented Davis with a Certificate of Appreciation, and once again thanked him and his company for the generous assistance. He also committed that proper usage and maintenance will be given to the vehicle.
The SPPD on behalf of the entire Police Department would like to thank Mahogany Bay Village for the donation of the vehicle. It is expected that with the addition of the Ford truck, the police will continue conducting their routine patrols in a more efficient manner, while ensuring the safety of the residents and visitors alike of San Pedro Town.
