Police-NewsSan Pedro Police have located 26-year-old Maria Elena Yah Cano, after a missing person report was made. The search for Cano began after 55-year-old Enrique Flores visited the San Pedro Police Station and reported that he hadn’t seen or heard of Cano since the previous day, September 13th.
According to the official police report, Flores stated that Cano was last seen leaving from a beachfront hotel located on Barrier Reef Drive, boarding a golf cart to go to her sister’s house. Police have since found the golf cart abandoned in the San Pedrito area road that leads to a dumping area.
It was speculated by her family members that she was kidnapped by two unknown males.
According to the Deputy of the Belize Police Department Coastal Executive Unit Henry Jemmott, Cano was found on Thursday, September 15th and was escorted to the Dr. Otto Rodriguez San Pedro Polyclinic II after displaying signs of injury.
Jemmott indicated that Cano is in stable condition, but is still recovering from the incident. The investigation continues and the police are imploring eyewitnesses to help with any clues that could track the suspects by calling the police station directly at 911 or 206-2022.
