The San Pedro Police investigating drowning incident at Central Park

Share

On Monday, November 25th, San Pedro Police responded to an incident at the beach in front of the central park in downtown San Pedro. Upon arrival, they observed first responders attempting to resurrect a male identified as Manuel Choc, who was later pronounced dead. The police are currently investigating what appears to be a drowning.
According to the police, between 4:25PM and 4:30PM, Choc was reportedly under the influence of alcohol. The police report indicated that Choc chose to go for a swim in the sea. Moments later, he was seen floating in the water. A bystander retrieved his body and began performing first aid, but Choc remained unresponsive.
Island Emergency Services arrived at the scene and attempted to resuscitate Choc, but unfortunately, they were unsuccessful. The police reported that Choc’s body was examined and showed no signs of injuries or physical violence. He was then transported to the Dr. Otto Rodriguez San Pedro Polyclinic II, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. His body is currently awaiting a post-mortem examination.
The circumstances surrounding Choc’s death remain unclear. The swimming area in front of the central park is quite shallow and is often visited by tourists and island residents with their families. Over the years, this area has become popular with beachgoers and swimmers. Given the lack of similar incidents in the past, many were shocked when Choc was found unconscious in the sea. Several witnesses are confused about what happened and hope the post-mortem examination will clarify the situation surrounding Choc’s swimming experience.
The police have stated that they will continue their investigation.
