Police charge Jaylil Usher for the August 2023 murder of Kean Quiros

On Friday, November 29th, police formally arrested and charged Jaylil Adanai Clarence E. Usher with the murder of Kean Jamaal Quiros, which occurred in 2023. The 19-year-old resident of San Mateo was killed in the early hours of Friday, August 11th, while inside his home. Preliminary reports indicate that the assailant lured Quiros to open his door by pretending to be a police officer. Quiros was fatally shot when he opened the door.

According to the police report, around 2:45 AM, Quiros was inside his home when an individual outside yelled, “Police!” The report states that Quiros opened the door and was shot multiple times, resulting in a fatal injury. He was transported to the Dr. Otto Rodriguez San Pedro Polyclinic II but was pronounced dead at 3:01 AM. At the crime scene, police collected several spent shell casings. At the time of the investigations, no motive was established. The police have not disclosed what led to Usher’s arrest and charges.

Usher is no stranger to law enforcement; he was arrested and charged on September 6, 2023, for the crime of possessing a prohibited firearm and a firearm with an altered serial number. A black firearm resembling an AK-47 with a wooden handle was discovered at Usher’s residence in San Mateo during a police search for weapons, drugs, and ammunition. He was sentenced to three years at the Kolbe Foundation-Belize Central Prison for possessing a prohibited firearm and fined $5,000 for removing the serial number.
