Police formations in Caye Caulker and San Pedro received vehicles from the Government of Belize on Tuesday, September 29th, to strengthen patrols and meet transportation needs on both islands. The Caye Caulker Police Sub-Formation received two vehicles, a green Polaris and a green Club Car golf cart, during a handover ceremony on the island. San Pedro police also received a Polaris that day.
Attending the Caye Caulker handover were Lenard Davis from the Assets & Utilities Management Unit, Customs Officer Shawn Ferguson, Divisional Commander Superintendent Edlin Lorenzo, Officer in Charge Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Roberto Novelo, and members of the Caye Caulker Village Council.
The vehicles were handed over directly to the Caye Caulker Police Sub-Formation to provide additional transportation for officers carrying out their duties. They are intended to support patrols and help officers navigate the island when responding to reports or conducting routine policing activities.
The donations form part of wider efforts to improve mobility within the Belize Police Department. According to officials, the department received ten pickup trucks and seven all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) nationwide over the past three months. The additional resources are intended to strengthen transportation capacity across police formations operating in different environments.
Officials indicated that the seven ATVs were designated for priority areas, including locations in Belize City. The distribution of vehicles to Caye Caulker and San Pedro also supported island formations, where transportation needs differ from those of mainland communities.
For the two island formations, access to additional vehicles could improve patrol coverage and help officers move between locations. Reliable transportation is an important part of police operations, allowing personnel to reach reported incidents, maintain a presence in communities, and carry out assignments across their respective jurisdictions.
The new vehicles are expected to support greater police visibility and more efficient responses. However, their effect on response times will depend on how they are deployed and maintained. The donations provide additional resources for officers as the department continues efforts to strengthen its operational capacity nationwide.
