BDF personnel destroy hand grenade found on Ambergris Caye
On Monday, March 31st, a bomb expert from the Belize Defense Force (BDF) traveled to San Pedro Town on Ambergris Caye after reports of a hand grenade found on the island. The grenade, located in northern Ambergris Caye, was handled with great care and was safely disposed of (destroyed) around midday, according to police reports. The police are continuing to investigate the origin of this dangerous object and any individuals who may be connected to its discovery.

Oscar Nal charged and remanded for rape
San Pedro resident Oscar Nal, also known as Omar, has been remanded to the Belize Central Prison following his arraignment at the San Pedro Magistrate Court on Monday, March 24th, on a charge of Rape. Nal is accused of raping an American tourist. He has been denied bail and will remain in custody until his next court date, which is scheduled for May 27, 2025.

Toxicology tests determine three deceased American tourists were fatally exposed to carbon monoxide
On Wednesday, March 26th, it was confirmed that three American female tourists, Kaoutar Naqqad (23), Imane Mallah (24), and Wafae El-Arar (26), found dead at the Royal Kahal Beach Resort on Ambergris Caye over a month ago, died from fatal exposure to carbon monoxide. Gian Cho, the Executive Director of the Belize National Forensic Science Services, stated that this conclusion was based on the toxicology tests conducted in the United States.

The Royal Kahal Beach Resort remains closed after three American guests were found dead in their room on February 22nd. The deceased, Imane Mallah (24), Kaoutar Naqqad (23), and Wafae El Arar (26), were of Moroccan descent and from Revere City, Massachusetts, USA. The cause of their deaths is still under investigation, with one focus being the possibility of carbon monoxide poisoning.

Christian Ramos and Trevor Lopez charged for robbery at Alfaro’s Construction and Design Company
Following the bold daylight robbery at Alfaro’s Construction and Design Company, police have arrested and charged Christian Denver Ramos, 19, from Belize City, and Trevor Ralph Lopez, 27, from DFC Area in San Pedro Town, with two counts of Robbery. Authorities are searching for a third suspect identified in a police flyer as McLane Gerardin August.
