Donald Trump has secured his second term as the President of the United States following “one of the most polarizing elections in recent history.” The Tuesday, November 5, 2024, presidential election saw a record voter turnout. Trump, representing the Republican Party, competed against Vice President Kamala Harris from the Democratic Party.

On the eve of the elections, the two candidates held rallies in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, each energizing their base with distinctly different visions for America’s future. Pennsylvania emerged as a pivotal battleground in this tightly contested race, with its 19 electoral votes capable of tipping the scales. Both Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump focused efforts on Pennsylvania, a state known for swinging the outcome in close races.

Trump addressed a large crowd, promising to “put America back to work” by revitalizing traditional industries such as coal and natural gas, which are significant in Pennsylvania. He framed his message as a return to American strength and independence, particularly in the energy sector, aiming to appeal to the state’s blue-collar workers. “The policies in Washington are hurting Pennsylvania’s workers and families,” he argued, tapping into concerns that resonate across many rural communities.
In contrast, Harris took a different approach, emphasizing her administration’s progress on infrastructure, clean energy, and job creation, especially in urban centers like Pittsburgh. “We’re working to build a better future by investing in clean energy and strengthening the American middle class,” she said, highlighting the Biden administration’s policies aimed at improving economic conditions across the U.S. and reducing migration pressures.

After a long day of voting and an even longer counting period, it became clear both nationwide and in key battleground states that Republicans had gained the support of voters who were concerned about the economy and prioritized stricter enforcement of immigration laws. By Wednesday afternoon, November 6th, Harris conceded the presidential race. In her concession speech delivered at her alma mater, Howard University, Harris urged her supporters to accept the results of the 2024 presidential election and committed to a peaceful transfer of power to Trump.
Donald Trump, elected 45th President in 2016, lost his bid for a second term in the 2020 election. His 2024 victory is notable as it occurred despite two assassination attempts, two presidential impeachments, a criminal conviction, and numerous other criminal charges. Trump is scheduled to be inaugurated as the 47th President of the United States on January 20, 2025, following a formal election by the United States Electoral College.
During his campaign, Trump promised to impose tariffs of 10% or 20% on all goods imported into the U.S. and even higher tariffs of 60% on products made in China. He also stated that he would promote local manufacturing, cut taxes, and deport millions of undocumented immigrants. Belize has long maintained solid diplomatic ties with the U.S. and heavily relies on its financial aid.
