When will Area Representative Andre Perez return to Cabinet?

Area Representative for Belize Rural South (BRS) (Ambergris Caye, Caye Caulker), Honourable Andre Perez, was granted a leave of absence from Cabinet and consequently from his Ministry of Blue Economy and Civil Aviation in August 2023 following allegations against him from a woman. An investigation was to occur before his return to Cabinet. Almost five months have passed, and the BRS representative remains out of Cabinet without a ministry. On Wednesday, January 17th, Prime Minister Honourable Dr. John Briceño told the media that no decision has been made regarding Perez's return to Cabinet and his ministerial duties.

New eligible voters register to participate in 2024 Municipal Elections

The 2024 municipal elections are fast approaching, and in San Pedro Town the campaign trail has been busy with candidates from both the People’s United Party (PUP) and the United Democratic Party (UDP) running their respective campaign machines. On Wednesday, January 10th, members of both parties flocked to the Elections and Boundaries branch in San Pedro to assist those needing to register to vote in the upcoming municipal elections set for Wednesday, March 6th.

2024 Municipal Elections are around the corner; island political parties gearing up

Next year, San Pedranos will be called to exercise their constitutional right and vote in the Municipal Elections set for March 6, 2024. The current San Pedro Town Council local administration under the People's United Party (PUP) will seek a second term in office. At the same time, the members of the United Democratic Party (UDP) have also announced their slate and have been campaigning house to house to garner enough support to challenge the local town council in March.

UDP Christmas Extravaganza entertains island children and families

On Saturday, December 16th, members of the United Democratic Party (UDP), poised for the upcoming Municipal Election, hosted a family Christmas show at the Honourable Louis Sylvester Sporting Arena. The extravaganza brought joy and laughter to island children and their parents as members of the popular Mexican group' Star Shows' presented a series of interactive Christmas-themed performances. The dance numbers featured characters such as PJ Masks, Rudolph, Frosty the Snowman, Santa Claus, and Disney's Mickey Mouse and his friends.

The People's United Party (PUP) town council slate in San Pedro Town hosted their endorsement convention on Saturday, December 1st, at the Honourable Louis Sylvestre Sporting Complex. Current San Pedro Town Council Members, Mayor Gualberto' Wally' Nuñez and councilors Dianeli Aranda, Ernesto Bardalez, Jose Castellanos, Marina Kay, Adaly Ayuso, and Johonnia Duarte are completing their first term in office and aspire to be re-elected in the municipal elections set for March 2024.

Jazelie Azueta removed as UDP Standard Bearer for Belize Rural South

Following a meeting on Saturday, September 2nd by the National Party Council (NPC) of the United Democratic Party (UDP), Jazelie ‘Jaz’ Azueta was formally removed as Standard Bearer for the Belize Rural South (BRS) constituency. According to members within the party, this is the consequence of not supporting the protest held by Belize City members of the UDP in San Pedro Town on Thursday, August 31st, against the current People’s United Party (PUP) government. The decision to remove Azueta was not welcomed among UDP supporters on the island, and on Monday, September 4th, Azueta released a statement on her dismissal.
