The Belize Senior Men’s National Football Team (the Jaguars) returned home on Thursday, September 12th, victorious against Turks and Caicos and Anguilla in the CONCACAF Nations League. With these wins, Belize now leads in Group B of the tournament’s League C.

Young footballers showcase skills in first leg of Mundialito Semifinals
On Sunday, September 8th, the first leg of the Mundialito Football Tournament’s semifinal games took place at the Ambergris Stadium. Four teams, Belize, Brazil, Germany, and Argentina competed to secure a final spot. The matches were intense as the young football players strove to score goals and earn points for a chance to compete in the ultimate showdown. The last leg of the semifinals will take place on Friday, September 13th, at 4:30PM, with three scheduled matches. This will determine who will advance to the grand finale, where the season's champion will be determined later this month.

San Pedro Town Council Sports hosts Track and Field competition
On Saturday, September 7th, the San Pedro Town Council Sports hosted a track and field competition at the Ambergris Stadium for the first time. The races were held in the categories of Under-8 and Under-10, 10-12, 13-14, and 15-17, for both males and females. At the end of the activity, the top winners received medals, and the rest of the runners were acknowledged for their participation.

Kian Trejo appointed President of the Belize Olympic Committee Athletes’ Commission
Island athlete Kian Trejo has been appointed President of the Belize Olympic Committee Athletes’ Commission (BOCAC). The commission acts as the representative body for Belizean athletes within the Olympic movement. As the head of the group, Trejo is dedicated to bridging the gap between Belizean athletes and the National Olympic Committee, ensuring that concerns and aspirations are recognized and addressed nationally and globally.

San Pedro Town Council Sports opens Softball, Track and Field Academies
The San Pedro Town Council Sports (SPTCS) continues to promote sports on the island through its different sports academies geared at the island’s youth. The softball academy started on Saturday, August 24th, with the track and field academy set to begin on Saturday, September 7th. These two additional sports academies and the SPTCS’s football academy, which began earlier this year in February, provide exciting opportunities for children to develop their skills and passion for sports. The program aims to include children in positive events and strengthen family bonds through sporting initiatives.

Running enthusiasts participate in 501 Run Club’s 10k Road Race
On Saturday, August 31st, the 501 Run Club organized a 10k Road Race starting at 6AM as part of a two-day run series. The race route went from Central Park to El Pescador, north of the bridge and back. At the end of the six-mile race, the top three finishers for six divisions were given medals for their achievement.

San Pedro Pirates draws 0-0 against Progresso FC
The San Pedro Pirates Football Club (FC) returned to the island without a win after a goalless match against Progresso FC on Saturday, August 31st, at the People’s Stadium in Orange Walk Town. The game, part of Week 5 of the Premier League of Belize (PLB), saw the island's premier football team remain in fourth place in the semi-pro national championship.

501 Run Club hosts second annual 5K Glow Run
The community running club 501 Run Club held its second annual 5K Glow Run on Friday, August 30th, at Central Park in San Pedro Town. The event drew many runners of different ages who participated in both male and female categories. At the end of the 3.1-mile race, the top three runners in each category received medals, and organizers encouraged everyone to continue practicing a healthy lifestyle.

The San Pedro Pirates Football Club (FC) competed in a thrilling football match against Wagiya FC on Sunday, August 25th, at the Ambergris Stadium. The game, part of Week 4 of the Premier League of Belize, looked promising for the island team. However, in an unexpected turn of events in the match's final minutes, Wagiya overcame San Pedro's defense, resulting in a 2-2 draw.

Terror Squad champions of the 2024 National Amateur Interdistrict Championship
The island’s football club, Terror Squad, etched their name in history on Saturday, August 24th, by clinching the 2024 National Amateur Interdistrict Championship (NAIC) with a resounding 5-1 triumph over EZ Griga Conquerors. The final showdown at the Ambergris Stadium, witnessed by a packed house, was a spectacle that showcased the football prowess of the island boys.

The National Amateur Interdistrict Championship (NAIC) will conclude on Saturday, August 24th, in San Pedro Town, Ambergris Caye, in a thrilling final football match between Terror Squad and EZ Griga Conquerors. Following the goalless match in the first leg of the finals on August 17th, Terror Squad will now have the advantage of the home game set to start at 7:30PM at the Ambergris Stadium.
