The male team comprising of 10 players played two games that earned them second place in the district finals. The first game was played against Holy Redeemer, the Zone A Champions of the Belize District. In this game, the San Pedro boys were able to win the first two sets with scores of, 25-20 and 25 – 23. This garnered them a spot in the finals.

The championship game was played against Burrel Boom Methodist, Belize Rural Champions. While the boys played strong and united, they were unable to take this game. They lost the game in the first two sets against Burrel Boom Methodist with scores of 22-25 and 23-25.

The Holy Cross Girls team played their first and only game in the city against Zone A champions, Holy Redeemer female team. This game was intense. Holy redeemer won the first set with a score of 25-2. The HC girls came into the second set determined to win, which they did, with a score of 25-23. This took the game into the third set which went to 15 points, meaning that the team that reached 15 points first was declared the winner. While the girls played fiercely, they lost the third set in a score of 12-15.

According to Mr. Kenny Witzil, this was the first time that the boys at SPRCS participated in such tournament. He stated, “It was a good learning experience for our kids. It was the first time that the school was involved in the volleyball competition. We did some little errors in terms of the rules and we had a little bit of time to practice. However, overall the boys played a very good game”.

The SPRCS would like to extend much thanks to Mr. Claudio Azueta, Ramon’s Village who provided transportation for both teams to the city. Special thanks are also expressed to the principal, teachers and parents who with their efforts, helped coached the team. The San Pedro Sun takes this opportunity to extend congratulations to the RC School Male and the Holy Cross Female volleyball teams.
