The Angel Nuñez Auditorium was the venue for the 2012 Association of Tertiary Level Institutions of Belize ATLIB Northern and Central Regional Volleyball Tournament. Six male and two female teams competed for the chance to represent the regions at the nationals scheduled for November 10th at the Falcon Field in San Ignacio Town.
In the female division, two teams competed but automatically qualified to move on to nationals as they were the only two female teams competing to represent the regions. In a game dominated by St. John’s College Junior College, Wesley Junior College girls couldn’t seem to catch a break. After two sets, SJCJC were named the winners with scores of 25-5 and 2510.
In the male tournament, there were two groups: A and B. The winner of each group moved on to represent at the Nationals. Group A included Belize Adventist Junior College (BAJC), St. John’s College Junior College (SJCJC) and Wesley Junior College (WJC). Group B consisted of Centro Escolar Mexico of Corozal (CEMJC), Corozal Junior College (CJC) and San Pedro Junior College (SPJC).
In the first game, SJCJC pulverized BAJC in the first two sets with scores of 25-17 and 25-09. This was followed by a tight game which saw SPJC going up against CEMJC. In the first set, CEMJC took a pretty big lead over SPJC in a score of 25-9. In the second set, the boys redeemed themselves winning this set in a score of 25-23. The third set in this game was pretty intense as a loss was not an option for either teams. In the end, SPJC was victorious with a score of 15-13.
Game three saw WJC victorious over BAJC in two sets with scores 25-15 and 25-22 while game four saw CJC taking the win over CEMJC in a score of 25-18,17-25 and 18-16. Game five saw SJCJC winning WJC with a score of 25-14 and 25-14 while SPJC won their chance to represent the region in game six, stepping over CJC in a three set game with scores 25-23, 19-25 and 15-13.
St John’s College Junior College went up against San Pedro Junior College at the North and Central regionals with St John’s College Junior College placing first, leaving San Pedro Junior College to take second place in a game ending in scores 25-17 and 25-15.
All four teams will travel to San Ignacio on November 10th where they will compete to represent the North and Central Regions in the Nationals.
