SPHS Female Softball Team training for the CAJFS Championship

Friday, April 15th, 2016

On Saturday, April 2nd, the Belize Softball Federation invited all 19 and under junior female softballers for their first ever training camp. The camp was designed to help players prepare for the XV Central American Junior Female Softball (CAJFS) Championship scheduled for August 11-14.
The San Pedro High School (SPHS) female softball team took full advantage of the amazing opportunity. Each team member showed dedication, adhering to all guidelines set by the federation. The team impressed the coaches at Roger’s Stadium in Belize City, so much that they were invited to continue in the ‘try-out’ sessions for a total of six weeks. They will be trying out for the U19 team, where only one or a few players from SPHS will represent Belize in the XV CAJFS Championships.SPHS Participate in Softball Camp-3
Players from the SPHS female softball team include: Jessie Sosa, Marian Gutierrez, Jucely Rosalez, Niome Teck, Sandra Alvarado, Nayeli Longsworth, Alice Corrigan, Steviana Moreira, Diana Arias, Jacqueline Caliz, Aliyah Elliot, Ashley Minott, and Chelsea Munoz.SPHS Participate in Softball Camp-2
Head Coach Derek Jones, Island Season Coach Jason Carlson, Volunteer Coach Andrew Schulman, and parents of the players are thus appealing to the San Pedro community for help. The team appreciates encouragement and recognition for their efforts, as well as support from their peers and school. However, the team seeks financial assistance to help with traveling costs. Any assistance or advice as to how the school, town and community can offer support, would be greatly appreciated by the team.
In addition to the CAJFS Championships, the SPHS will be hosting their “Girls Softball Summer Camp” on July 25th through August 19th in effort to find a team that will win the 2016-2017 National Girls Softball Nationals. Girls from Standard six through Fourth Form are encouraged to sign up and learn valuable team skills, techniques, and rules of the game.SPHS Participate in Softball Camp-1
Although the softball camp will focus on softball, additional fun activities are planned. This is a great opportunity to meet new friends and create bonds with individuals who share the same hobby. The camp will include sessions of yoga taught by Tara Darral and aquafit classes at the San Pedro Fitness Center.
SPHS is also asking for assistance in securing additional equipment, either borrowed or donated, as well as accommodation and food allowance for the Belize coach, drinks and healthy snacks, light breakfast and lunch and t-shirts. If you would like to donate, please contact Team Coordinator Kate Corrigan at 632-4102 or email [email protected] The SPHS girls extend a special thank you to all of the community’s support and they hope to bring home a victory next year!
