Team Fish On wins 20th annual Placencia BTIA Saltwater Marelco Yamaha Fishing Tournament

Belize Tourism Industry Association (BTIA) Placencia Chapter held their 20th annual Saltwater Marelco Yamaha Fishing Tournament in Placencia Village from Saturday, September 22nd to Sunday, September 23rd. A total of 11 teams participated in the two-day event, competing for some great cash prizes. The teams competing were Trifecta, Maui, Fish On, Reel Pet Peeve, Shawdii, Back On Track, Bad Tide Too, Reggae, Dos Gringos, Fish Frenzy and Hammer. The tournament was a great success, and after two days of arduous efforts out at sea, Team Fish On was victorious, capturing the grand cash prize of $4,000.
On Saturday, September 22nd, all the boats left together around 7am from the Municipal Pier, en-route to the deep sea to catch the biggest fish possible.

On the last day of the tournament on Sunday, September 23rd a large crowd of spectators gathered at the Muninicpal Pier to support their favorite teams. All boats were back at the weigh station by 3PM and after points had been tallied, winners were announced, starting with the individual prizes.
Dwayne Flowers from Team Hammer won the prize for the ‘Largest Barracuda’ (14.21Lbs). The ‘Largest King Fish’ (20.21lbs) prize went to Jeremy from Team Bad Tide Too. The prize for the ‘Largest Jack’ went to Darnell Leslie from Team Fish Frenzy, who caught a 13.8 lbs. fish. Matt from Team Trifecta won the prize for the ‘Largest Extraordinary Fish,’ a 25.6 lbs. Wahoo. The prize for ‘Largest Fish caught by a Female Angler’ prize went to Polly Alford from Team Fish On, who caught a 12.4 lbs. Barracuda. Anderson Alford Jr. from Team Fish On won the prize of ‘Largest Barracuda caught by Junior Angler’, after catching a 12.4 lbs. one. The prize for ‘Largest Jack caught by a Junior Angler’ went to Erwin Leslie Jr. from Team Fish Frenzy, who caught a 10.2 lbs. fish. Deshawndre Henderson from Team Back on Track claimed the prize of ‘Largest Extraordinary caught by Junior Angler’ after catching a 10.2 lbs. Dorado. The grand prize of the ‘Best Boat’ award went to Team Fish On, who tallied a total of 145.75 points over the two-day tournament and walked away with a cash prize of $4,000. The ‘Grand Slam’ award went to Team Fish Frenzy, who tallied a total of 117.05 points and walked away with a $1,500 cash prize.
