Two island footballers are training with the Belize National Beach Soccer selection to prepare for the 2021 CONCACAF Beach Soccer Championship held in Alajuela, Costa Rica, from the 17-23rd of May.

The two island athletes, who are team members of the San Pedro Pirates Football Club, include Sean Mas playing defense and Rugerri Trejo as goalkeeper. The remaining team hails from different football clubs around the country, including Dangriga Town, Seine Bight, Belmopan City, and Hopkins.

According to the Football Federation of Belize (FFB), the tournament will occur at the Fedefutbol Plycem Sports Complex in Alajuela. It will feature 11 participating teams from the Bahamas, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Mexico, Panama, Trinidad and Tobago, Turks and Caicos, USA, and Belize. The Jewel is in Group A and will play against Mexico on May 17th and Panama on May 18th.

The Belizean beach soccer selection started preparations at the FFB’s Headquarters in the Capital City of Belmopan with 16 players in a bubble, training at its newly constructed beach soccer pitch. The football federation hopes to wrap up all necessary preparations by next week. Afterward, a virtual press conference will be held on Wednesday, May 12th, to present the National Beach Soccer team to the country. The Belizean team will then travel to Costa Rica on May 14th.

The San Pedro Sun wishes the island players and the beach soccer team all the best as they continue with their preparations for the tournament in Costa Rica.
