The San Pedro Pirates suffered their first defeat of the Premier League of Belize (PLB) Opening Season after facing Napoles in Belmopan on September 12th. The Week 7 match took place at the Football Federation of Belize Stadium, where the island team fell 3-1 in its second away match.
The action began at 7:30PM, with Napoles taking control from the opening whistle. The first goal came in the second minute when San Pedro’s Melvin Guzman inadvertently sent the ball into his own net. Three minutes later, the Pirates threatened the Napoles goal and nearly found the equalizer. The island team created another opportunity in the 42nd minute, but a header narrowly missed the target.
Two minutes later, Napoles launched an attack through the midfield and San Pedro’s defense. A low cross traveled through the goal area, eluding the goalkeeper and defenders before reaching striker Warren Moss. Moss sent the ball into the back of the net, giving Napoles a 2-0 lead at halftime.
Three minutes into the second half, Napoles scored its third goal following a set piece. Anderson Pixabaj headed the ball past the San Pedro goalkeeper to extend his team’s lead to 3-0.
The Pirates continued pressing to reduce the deficit. Mailson Moura found an opening in the 51st minute and scored San Pedro’s only goal of the match.
San Pedro had an opportunity to score again when a penalty was awarded in its favor in the 55th minute. However, the Napoles goalkeeper blocked the spot kick, denying the Pirates a chance to narrow the lead further. Napoles later made two additional attempts to widen the gap but was unsuccessful.
At the final whistle, Napoles secured the 3-1 victory. The Pirates are now preparing for their next home match, scheduled for Saturday, September 19th, at the Ambergris Stadium. San Pedro will face Benque United Football Club, which drew 2-2 against Wagiya SC over the weekend.
