Belize earned nine medals at the 22nd Central American Student Sports Games, known as CODICADER 2026, held from September 4th through the 13th in Tegucigalpa, Honduras. The Belizean delegation included 183 student-athletes from across the country, who competed against more than 2,200 participants from Central America.
Team Belize concluded the competition with two gold, three silver, and four bronze medals. Oshane Munnings of Bishop Martin High School won gold in the boys’ high jump, while Jaaden Williams of Toledo Community College captured gold in the boys’ triple jump.
Belize also recorded strong results in athletics and volleyball. Antwan Latchman of Sadie Vernon Technical High School won silver in the boys’ 200 meters, Jordi Escalante of New Hope High School won silver in the boys’ javelin, and the Saint Catherine Academy girls’ volleyball team won silver.
Bronze medals went to Brayden Jacobs of Nazarene High School in the boys’ 100 meters, Isaac Gabourel of Kings College in the boys’ shot put, Jan Sosa of Quality School International in the boys’ javelin, and the Team Belize boys’ volleyball team.
Team Belize Head Coach Silvino Riverol expressed his pride in the delegation’s achievements. “To say that I am feeling overwhelmed and emotional is an understatement. I am very proud,” he said. “We are going back with two gold medals, which is historic for Belize.”
The National Sports Council congratulated the athletes, coaches, team officials, schools, sporting associations, parents, and supporters. The council said Williams delivered an exceptional performance in the triple jump, while Munnings’ high-jump result helped Belize conclude the athletics competition with two gold medals.
Belize’s strong participation in this year’s games provided student-athletes with valuable international competition and cultural-exchange experience. The results also highlighted the continued development of athletics and youth volleyball in the country.
The National Sports Council said the performances demonstrated Belize’s athletic talent and reinforced the importance of continued investment in school sports and athlete development.
