Old Boys and E & L each earned 3-0 wins in the first leg of the Over 35 Cup semi-finals on September 25. Their opponents, Caye Caulker and United FC, will have a chance to respond in the second set of matches, which will determine the two finalists.
Old Boys faced Caye Caulker in the opening match. One of the tournament’s strongest teams, Old Boys took control early and went into halftime with the lead. Caye Caulker worked to get back into the game after the break but could not find a goal. Old Boys added to their tally in the second half and finished with a 3-0 victory.
The result puts Old Boys in a strong position heading into the next match. Caye Caulker will need to overcome the three-goal deficit to keep its hopes of reaching the final alive.
E & L met United FC in the second semi-final. Neither team scored in the first half, but E & L broke the deadlock shortly after play resumed. United FC made changes and pushed forward in search of an equalizer. E & L held firm in defense and scored again to extend its lead to 2-0.
United FC continued to press, but its efforts did not produce a goal. E & L added a third shortly before the final whistle to secure another 3-0 result. Like Caye Caulker, United FC now faces a three-goal deficit in the second leg.
The two opening results set up a decisive weekend for all four teams. Old Boys and E & L will look to protect their leads, while Caye Caulker and United FC must find a way back into their respective contests. The winners will advance to the Over 35 Cup final.
The second set of semi-final matches is scheduled for this weekend at Ambergris Stadium. Games begin at 7PM. Admission is $5, with food and drinks available for purchase at the venue.
