San Pedro Pirates secured a narrow 1–0 win over Verdes on Saturday, October 10th, moving up to third place in the Premier League of Belize (PLB) standings with 13 points. The result marked Verdes’ second defeat of the tournament, dropping the reigning champions to fourth place.
The highly anticipated second-round match was held at Ambergris Stadium, where island football fans gathered to support the home team. The Pirates went on the offensive early in the first half, putting pressure on the visitors. Verdes also showed their competitive strength, but San Pedro capitalized on their home advantage and controlled much of the early action.
The Pirates’ pressure paid off when striker Moises Hernandez scored to give the island team the lead. San Pedro continued searching for a second goal while protecting their advantage, but the score remained 1–0 at halftime.
The home team maintained their momentum in the opening minutes of the second half. Hernandez had several chances to extend the lead but could not find the back of the net. Verdes continued to counterattack and gradually took control.
The visitors pressed San Pedro’s defense as they searched for an equalizer. The Pirates’ goalkeeper blocked several long-range shots, while other attempts went wide.
As the match entered its closing stages, San Pedro shifted to a more defensive approach, focusing on protecting their narrow lead. Verdes continued pushing forward, forcing the island team to defend under sustained pressure.
Despite several close attempts by the visitors and eight minutes of stoppage time, the Pirates held on to secure the 1–0 victory. The win earned San Pedro three valuable points and strengthened their standing as the tournament continues.
Napoles leads the standings with 16 points following a commanding 6–0 victory over Port Layola on October 10 in Belmopan. Port Layola remains in second place with 14 points, one point ahead of the Pirates.
San Pedro Pirates will next travel to the mainland to face Progresso on Sunday, October 18th.
