Annual Turkey Trot raises funds for Hope Haven

San Pedro Town started the Thanksgiving celebrations with the sixth annual Turkey Trot, held on Thursday, November 28th, at Boca del Rio Beach Park. The 5K (3.1 miles) run or walk raises funds for the island’s non-profit organization and orphanage, Hope Haven.

Kian Trejo participates in regional sports forum in the Dominican Republic

Island athlete Kian Trejo and cyclist Alicia Thompson represented Belize at the third Panam Sports Continental Athletes Forum, held from November 21-23 in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. The event brought together 130 participants from 41 member countries to discuss various sports-related topics through conference sessions.

Team Reel Nauti conquers this year’s Overseas Fishing Rodeo

The second Overseas Fishing Rodeo, honoring Garifuna Settlement Day, was held on Sunday, November 24th, at Overseas Bar and Grill in the Boca del Rio Area. 18 teams participated in the day-long competition, where the best anglers vied for the grand prize. This year, the coveted trophy was awarded to Team Reel Nauti, who also caught the heaviest Wahoo, weighing 29.8 pounds. Team Reel Nauti brought in a total of four Wahoo, which contributed to their victory in the tournament.

San Pedro Pirates heading to PLB finals

On Saturday, November 23rd, a major upset occurred at Marshalleck Stadium in Benque Viejo del Carmen, as the San Pedro Pirates Football Club defeated Verdes FC 3-2. This win secures the Pirates' place in the Premier League of Belize (PLB) finals for the 2024-2025 opening season. With this victory, the island team triumphed over Verdes with a 4-3 aggregate score, eliminating one of the strongest teams in the PLB from the finals. The first leg of the finals will take place on Saturday, November 30th at 7:30PM at San Pedro’s Ambergris Stadium.

Belize National Football Team qualifies for the Gold Cup Preliminaries

After their 2-2 draw against French Guiana on Tuesday, November 19th, the Belize National Football Team (Jaguars) advanced with a 4-3 aggregate score, qualifying for the preliminary round of the CONCACAF Gold Cup. This match was part of the CONCACAF Nations League.

Belize U-16 Female Football Team’s journey at the UNCAF Tournament comes to an end

The Belize U-16 Female National Team demonstrated their talent and determination at the 2024 UNCAF U-16 Girls Championship, which was held in Managua, Nicaragua. This prestigious tournament featured eight Central American teams, with the U-16 Female National Football Team from Costa Rica securing the championship title. Even though the Belizean squad could not secure a win, the experience served as a means for the young athletes to improve and develop their skills in the international field.

Island Fitness Tournament showcases San Pedro’s athletes

On Saturday, November 9th, a group of athletes gathered to participate in a fitness tournament organized by Miss San Pedro 2024-2025, Alexa Acosta. The event occurred at the Angel Nuñez Auditorium at San Pedro High School, where male and female participants from various CrossFit gyms competed at the beginner and intermediate levels. They showcased their efforts and dedication to the fitness regimen, and the top three athletes in each category received prizes.

San Pedro Pirates draws 1-1 with Verdes in first match of PLB’s semi-finals

On Saturday, November 9th, the San Pedro Pirates played a 1-1 draw against Verdes Football Club in the first round of the Premier League of Belize (PLB) semi-finals. The match was intense and competitive as the PLB regular season nears its conclusion. The match occurred at Ambergris Stadium, with kick-off at 7:30 PM. San Pedro football fans turned out in large numbers to support their island team. In the early minutes of the first half, both teams pushed hard to break the deadlock, with Verdes making several close attempts but failing to score.
