King’s Baton arrives in Belize ahead of 2026 Commonwealth Games

Ahead of the 2026 Commonwealth Games to be held in Glasgow, Scotland, the King’s Baton Relay has begun its journey across Commonwealth nations, including Belize. The Baton was officially welcomed in the capital city of Belmopan on April 20th during a ceremony hosted at the British High Commission in partnership with the Belize Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association. The Games are scheduled to take place from July 23rd to August 2nd. No athletes from San Pedro Town, Ambergris Caye, are expected to compete this year.

SPHS Sharks hand RE/MAX first defeat in local softball league

Softball action continued on April 19th at the Honorable Louis Sylvester Sporting Arena (Saca Chispas Field), where RE/MAX suffered its first loss of the season. Despite the setback, the team remains at the top of the standings, with Gladiators and San Pedro High School (SPHS) Sharks trailing.

Sharks Cup Week 6 Draws Crowds

The Sharks Cup volleyball tournament continued with an exciting Week 6 on Sunday, April 12th, at the Angel Nuñez Auditorium. The event drew strong crowds for youth and senior matches played across two courts starting at 4PM. Organized by the San Pedro Volleyball Association, the tournament featured U13 co-ed, U15 girls, co-ed seniors, senior females, and senior male semifinals, with teams including The Island Academy, Isla Bonita Elementary School (IBES), San Pedro Roman Catholic School (SPRCS), New Horizon SDA School, Ambergris Caye Elementary School (ACES), WD 20’s, Chaos, Titans, Wild Sets, Barbos, and Rompe Pechos competing.

League leaders Sea Bulls FC secured a narrow 5-4 victory over G Strikers in an intense match of the Island League Football Tournament on Saturday, April 11th, at the Ambergris Stadium. G Strikers put up a strong fight throughout the game, nearly upsetting the current leaders in one of the season's most competitive matches so far.
