Caye Caulker Roman Catholic School’s “Yadier Carillo” Wins Annual Spelling Bee Zone Eliminations

On Thursday, February 22nd, the annual Bowen and Bowen Spelling Bee Belize District Zone Eliminations occurred at the Sagebrush Church Auditorium. The event saw the participation of several schools, including The Island Academy, Ambergris Caye Elementary School, Caye Caulker Roman Catholic, Holy Cross Anglican Primary School, Isla Bonita Elementary School, New Horizon Seventh Day Adventist, and San Pedro Roman Catholic Primary School. Out of all the participating students, three emerged as the top spellers. Valentina Caliz from Holy Cross Anglican School took the third position, followed by Ryan Sanchez from Isla Bonita Elementary School in the second place. Yadier Carillo secured the first position from the Caye Caulker Roman Catholic School.

A weekend full of graduations on the island!

June is known in San Pedro Town for being a month full of community activities, from the traditional island celebrations to those marking the end of a school year. The graduation season is always a time to celebrate the achievements of students from all levels, and over the weekend, several schools hosted this anticipated event for their senior students. Some of these graduations over the weekend saw pre-schoolers and primary schoolers marching the aisles to the tune Pomp and Circumstance.

San Pedro continues raising Autism awareness

April is Autism Awareness Month across the country. Every year in San Pedro, Ambergris Caye, a campaign is held to help the community understand and appreciate those living with autism spectrum disorder, a life-long developmental disorder. On Friday, April 28th, to further touch on the important topic, the San Pedro Town Council, in partnership with Autism Belize, hosted an Autism Let's Talk forum at the San Pedro Lions Den.

ACES’ Wesley Padilla wins annual Spelling Bee Zone Eliminations

On Friday, February 3rd, the annual Bowen and Bowen Spelling Bee Belize District Zone Eliminations were held at the Sagebrush Church auditorium. Participating schools included Holy Cross Anglican School, Isla Bonita Elementary School, New Horizon Seventh Day Adventist (SDA), San Pedro Roman Catholic School, The Island Academy (TIA), and Ambergris Caye Elementary School (ACES). Three topped the spelling competition. In third place was TIA’s Mille Fuson, followed by New Horizon SDA’s Valarie Najarro, and in first place ACES’ Wesley Padilla.

ACES celebrates the Christmas season with their entertaining annual pageant

As the holiday season continues, schools across San Pedro Town have been delighting islanders with their annual Christmas shows. On Thursday, December 15th, it was the turn for the Ambergris Caye Elementary School (ACES). The Christmas pageant was held at the Sagebrush Church, featuring various presentations performed by talented students.

San Pedro celebrates Children’s Day with educational and cultural presentations

On Friday, November 18th, schools across the island celebrated Children’s Day with games and educational activities. Some of these schools took advantage of the occasion and, throughout the week, invited several island professionals to make inspirational presentations and raise awareness of the need to protect the fragile natural ecosystems supporting islands like San Pedro, Ambergris Caye.

The Caye Education Foundation assists young student with custom-built wheelchair

The Caye Education Foundation (CEF) in San Pedro, Ambergris Caye, is dedicated to assisting underprivileged students to achieve a high school education. The Foundation, made up of generous members, is always looking at ways to assist students, and recently they joined efforts to help a bright young man named Jazwell Moguel with a custom-built wheelchair. Moguel will now be able to move around better, be more independent, and even return to in-class learning.

San Pedro Lions Club delivers healthy meals to ACES students

The island members of the San Pedro Lions Club continue with their feeding project, ‘Healthy Snacks for Schools,’ providing students with healthy meals. The initiative started earlier this month at the Seventh Day New Horizon Adventist Primary School. On Wednesday, October 19th, it reached the Ambergris Caye Elementary School (ACES), where it served 120 students.
