The Rotary Club of Ambergris Caye has introduced its first-ever Educator of the Year Award for San Pedro Town, with the winner to be announced during International Teacher Appreciation Week in the first week of May. The award aims to recognize teachers who shape the island’s next generation and often go unnoticed, despite the time, effort, and personal resources they invest in their students.

New Horizon SDA and San Pedro Roman Catholic School Crowned Zone 5 Football Champions
During the National Sports Council Zone 5 Primary School Football Tournament, held from February 9th to 19th at the Ambergris Stadium, New Horizon Seventh Day Adventist School (NHSDA) captured the male championship title, while San Pedro Roman Catholic School (SPRCS) secured the female championship. The tournament featured male and female teams from SPRCS, Holy Cross Anglican School (HCAS), NHSDA, Caye Caulker Roman Catholic School (CCRCS), Ambergris Caye Elementary School (ACES), and Isla Bonita Elementary School (IBES). Over six days of competition, the schools competed in a round-robin format, culminating in the championship finals on February 19th.

Ambergris Caye Elementary School (ACES) hosted its annual Christmas show on Wednesday, December 11th, at 6PM at Sagebrush Church in San Pedro. The festive evening brought together parents, friends, and community supporters for a student-led showcase of songs, dances, and dramatic performances celebrating the Christmas season.

Island Academy Dominates San Pedro Primary Volleyball Elimination Tournament
The Island Academy emerged as the top contender in both the male and female divisions during the San Pedro primary school volleyball elimination tournament held on Friday, October 24th, at the San Pedro Roman Catholic Primary School. The competition brought together local schools vying for the chance to represent San Pedro at the upcoming Belize District Primary School Volleyball Finals, scheduled for November 11th at Swift Hall in Belize City.

On Thursday, June 26, Ambergris Caye Elementary School (ACES) celebrated its graduation ceremony for the Class of 2025 at the Sagebrush Church. The event was themed “Embrace your journey. The hall of fame awaits!” reflecting the hopes and dreams of the 19 graduating students and their community.

Azaliah Ortega wins Hol Chan’s Annual Primary School Trivia Competition
The Hol Chan Marine Reserve hosted its Annual Primary School Trivia Competition on May 14th at the Lion’s Den. A highlight of the much-anticipated Reef Fest, the event aimed to foster environmental awareness and stewardship among young students. It drew enthusiastic participation from six local primary schools across Ambergris Caye and Caye Caulker.

On Sunday, May 4th, semi-finals and finals matches for the Indoor Volleyball Tournament were held at the Angel Nuñez Auditorium, showcasing a vibrant display of local talent across various age groups. The event, organized by Erick Santizo, President of the San Pedro Volleyball Association, began at 4PM and featured competitive matches in categories including under-13 males and females, under-15 males and females, and senior males and females.
