BCVI Continues Eye Care Outreach with First 2026 Clinic in San Pedro
The Belize Council for the Visually Impaired (BCVI) held its first monthly free eye checkup outreach of 2026 on January 7th and 8th at the Lions Den in San Pedro. The clinic operated from 9AM to 4PM on Wednesday and from 9AM to 2PM on Thursday. Led by optometrist Dr. Nesani Glori and optical assistant Elia Slusher, a 24-year BCVI veteran, the outreach provided comprehensive screenings, including visual acuity testing and referrals for conditions such as cataracts and diabetes-related eye complications.

The San Pedro Lions Club continues to be an active group of islanders, always looking for ways to help their fellow San Pedranos. The club not only continues hosting the monthly eye clinics provided by the Belize Council for the Visually Impaired (BCVI) but has now embarked on a project to provide island students with healthy eating once a month.

BCVI conducts first eye exams on the island since the pandemic
After months without the monthly eye clinic at the Lions Den, a complimentary service offered by the Belize Council for the Visually Impaired (BCVI), the clinic resumed on Wednesday, May 5th. The free eye exams provided on a first-come basis take place every first Wednesday of the month.

The Chief Executive of The Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee Trust (the Trust), Dr Astrid Bonfield CBE, met with the Government of Belize and leading eye health experts to thank and commend them for their efforts to prevent blindness caused by escalating rates of diabetes across Belize.
