Passengers and Staff Sustain Minor Injuries After Water Taxi Runs Aground in Mangrove Channel

The Belize Port Authority (BPA) responded to a marine emergency on December 13th after a passenger vessel operated by Caribbean Sprinter ran aground in a mangrove area shortly after leaving Belize City. The water taxi was on its regular route between Caye Caulker and San Pedro Town on Ambergris Caye when the incident happened. BPA personnel, including a coxswain and crew, helped in responding to the situation. Authorities confirmed that while the captain and three passengers had minor injuries, no serious injuries were reported. All remaining passengers were safely transferred to another vessel and taken to their respective destinations.

Caribbean Sprinter Connects Communities

Recognizing the life-saving impact of voluntary blood donors, Caribbean Sprinter continues to support this important country wide community effort in Belize. Over the past two years, Caribbean Sprinter and Island Donors Squad (IDS) have partnered to support the country by organizing chaperoned blood donation trips from Ambergris Caye and Caye Caulker to Belize City.

Water taxi companies to relocate from downtown San Pedro

A less trafficked and congested downtown San Pedro has always been in the local government's plan. While this has been a difficult task in the past, the current San Pedro Town Council (SPTC) is working closely with stakeholders to achieve this goal. One of the expected changes is the relocation of the water taxi companies. The two operating on the island's east side that run to and from Belize City are San Pedro Belize Express (SPBE) and Caribbean Sprinter. The SPBE has started constructing its boat terminal south of town along Coconut Drive.
