Reef Week San Pedro ends with a beach and sea clean up

From the 7th to the 13th of March, San Pedro Town hosted its Reef Week with a series of activities highlighting the importance of protecting its marine ecosystem. The week-long event ended with a beach and sea clean-up, but not before spreading education, awareness, and reminding islanders of the need to take care of Belize's Barrier Reef and the sea.

Twenty-three participants kicked off the annual Reef Week San Pedro with an early morning swim challenge to the reef.

SCA students conduct beach clean-up in northern Ambergris Caye

A large portion of the Mexico Rocks Marine Reserve beachside in northern Ambergris Caye was cleared of a large amount of garbage on Saturday, January 25th during a clean-up conducted by a group of students from Belize City’s Saint Catherine Academy (SCA) and volunteers from San Pedro Town.

Carina Paz excels in Triathlon competition in Belize City

San Pedro’s very own Carina Paz competed in a Triathlon in Belize City on Saturday, November 16th, where she conquered three of the sport’s disciplines (swimming, biking, and running) in 42 minutes. The competition had categories including three-member teams, who relayed each step of the Triathlon. Paz opted to participate as an individual, which came with a triple challenge that she completed.

San Pedro Town and Sea Isle City, New Jersey discuss Sister City Relationship

On Wednesday, July 31st, Mayor Daniel Guerrero received a visit from Werner Graf and his daughter Angelina Graf to discuss a proposal of a Sister City relationship between San Pedro Town and Sea Isle City, New Jersey, USA. The Grafs came on behalf of the City Council of Sea Isle City and presented Guerrero with the keys to the city, which bears the name of Mayor Leonard Desiderio.

San Pedro youth top Annual English Caye Swim Challenge

Among the 30 swimmers from across the country was San Pedro’s 13-year-old Carina Paz, who was the first and youngest female to complete the 1.6 mile swim. Brandon Santos, Jordan Santos and Kian Trejo took the first, second, and fourth place respectively.

SPRCS students enjoy marine exhibit

In an effort to raise awareness on reef conservation, Carina Paz, 13 year-old Standard Six student at San Pedro Roman Catholic School (SPRCS), hosted a marine exhibit on Friday, May 26th.
