Female Police Officers Honored at Church Service to Mark Women’s Month

Female police officers from San Pedro and Caye Caulker were recognized during a special church service on Sunday, March 1st, as part of activities celebrating Women’s Month. The San Pedro Police Force attended the 10AM mass at the San Pedro Roman Catholic Church, which was celebrated by Fr. Eduardo Montemayor.

Police Make Arrest in Caye Caulker Shooting

29-year-old Caye Caulker resident Jovaun Moody has been formally arrested and charged with keeping a firearm without a gun license, keeping ammunition without a gun license, and possession of controlled drugs following a shooting on the island. Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Stacy Smith said the charges stem from an investigation into a shooting that occurred around 8:45PM on February 12, 2026, in the Bahia area of Caye Caulker. During the incident, 22-year-old Dominic Castillo was injured. He was initially treated at the Caye Caulker Health Center before being transported to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital (KHMH) in Belize City for further medical care.

Cop charged in stabbing death of Caye Caulker resident Kevin Depaz

On Thursday, January 22nd, police reported that 20-year-old Police Constable Lionel Rodolfo Urbina was charged with the crime of Murder in connection with the death of 19-year-old Kevin Depaz in Caye Caulker. Urbina was also charged with two counts of Attempted Murder and two counts of Use of Deadly Means of Harm in relation to injuries sustained by Neesean Allen and Julian Canul.

Caye Caulker Man Charged After Canadian National Injured

Residents in Caye Caulker are questioning the arrest and charges brought against 19-year-old Nelbert Choc Jr. following an incident in which a 47-year-old Canadian national, Charles Sanford, was injured. Sanford was transported to Belize City, where he is listed in critical but stable condition at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital.

Machete Attack in Caye Caulker Leaves One Man Severely Injured

Caye Caulker Police are investigating a machete attack that left Mark Budd, 37, with serious injuries to his arm and hand. The incident occurred shortly after midnight on Thursday, August 28, in the Bahia area of the island. Budd was later transported to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital in Belize City, where he was admitted and listed in stable condition. Reports indicate he lost two fingers in the attack.

Caye Caulker Village Council Questions Police Behavior

On Wednesday, July 2nd, the Caye Caulker Village Council issued a press release addressing growing concerns over allegations of violence and abuse of authority by local police officers. The council highlighted reports of excessive force, particularly against the island's youth. It emphasized the need for officers to focus on de-escalation rather than meeting violence with violence.

Police Report: Boat Incident at Caye Caulker

On March 27th, 2025, at approximately 4:20PM, Caye Caulker Police responded to a call regarding an injured American national at the Caye Caulker Polyclinic. Upon arrival, officers observed a Caucasian male being attended to by a doctor. He was suffering from what appeared to be a large cut on the back of his head and was bleeding profusely. The individual was identified as Mark Christopher Strus, a 45-year-old civil engineer from Michigan, USA, as confirmed by his passport.

Caye Caulker resident charged for assaulting American partner

Leodan Lara, a resident of Caye Caulker, has been charged with Wounding following reports that he assaulted his disabled American partner, Emily Lydon. The incident reportedly took place on Monday, February 3rd, when Lara assaulted Lydon in Caye Caulker. After the incident, Lara was detained and subsequently charged with Wounding. On Wednesday, February 5th, he was taken to San Pedro Town for arraignment. Lara remains in custody at the San Pedro Police Station and was scheduled to be arraigned on Thursday, February 6th.
