Jasmine Hartin remains in police custody after senior cop is killed

Well-known island businesswoman Jasmine Hartin, partner of entrepreneur/developer Andrew Ashcroft, remains in police custody following the fatal shooting death of Superintendent of Police Henry Jemmott. 42-year-old Jemmott was apparently shot in the head with his own gun while socializing with Hartin.

The Belize Police Department is mourning the loss of one of its senior officers. Superintendent Henry Jemmott was fatally shot in the early hours of Friday, May 28th, while socializing with a female friend on a dock in front of a beach resort south of downtown San Pedro. At a press briefing later that day, Commissioner of Police (ComPol) Chester Williams identified the female as Jasmine Hartin, the partner of Andrew Ashcroft, son of Lord Michael Ashcroft. She was taken to the San Pedro Police Station for questioning.

Central and local government officials meet with stakeholders to address police issues affecting island tourism

To discuss and find solutions to challenges tourism is facing in San Pedro Town and address the recent increase in reports of questionable police conduct, a meeting was held on Tuesday, May 18th, with central and local government officials and island stakeholders. BTB Chairman Tillet assured that all concerns are considered and emphasized the importance of keeping the lines of communication open.

Curfew extended for another month

The current curfew, Sundays to Thursdays from 10PM to 5AM, and Fridays and Saturdays-midnight to 5AM, will continue for another 30 days. The extension was announced on Saturday, May 15th by Commissioner of Police (ComPol) Chester Williams.
