No more COVID-19 restrictions within Belize; some travel requirements remain

As of Friday, April 1st, all remaining COVID-19 restrictions within Belize will be lifted as per the Ministry of Health and Wellness. Restrictions mandating facemask wearing and social distancing will be lifted, and activities such as concerts and large gatherings will be allowed. Night clubs and bars will also be allowed to operate. The only restrictions that remain in place are the requirement for visitors/tourists ages five and above to present proof of immunization or a negative COVID-19 test upon arrival, and Belizeans planning to travel out of the country must be vaccinated.

Lobster fests in San Pedro and Caye Caulker are back this year!

After a pause in outdoor events due to COVID-19 restrictions, the lobster fest celebrations are back in San Pedro Town and Caye Caulker. Both organizing committees have announced the dates, with Caye Caulker festivities scheduled July 1st through the 3rd. In San Pedro, festivities start with a lionfish hunt and lobster crawl beginning on June 30th, culminating with the usual block party at Central Park on July 9th.

State Memorial held to celebrate the life of Rt. Hon. Sir Manuel Esquivel

On Tuesday, February 15th, a State Memorial celebrating the life of the late former Prime Minister Right Honourable Dr. Sir Manuel Esquivel KCMG, PC, was held in Belize City. This included transporting his ashes to the Government House from his residence and a visit of government officials and other dignitaries to pay their respects.

Busy Easter weekend on La Isla Bonita; were COVID-19 protocols followed?

This time, Easter in San Pedro Town was much busier than last year as a large influx of visitors from abroad, and Belizeans spent the long weekend on La Isla Bonita. With the current COVID-19 restrictions limiting social events, the usual large beach jamborees were absent for the second year in a row; consequently, the police reported fewer issues. Although businesses welcomed the large volume of visitors, it also caused concern as many believed COVID-19 protocols and health safety measures were not properly observed.

Belize Officially Reopens International Airport to Leisure Travel

Travelers planning to visit Belize in 2020-2021 can choose from a new schedule of year-round, non-stop flights offered by American Airlines, United Airlines and Delta Airlines. Beginning Oct. 1, Belize will welcome non-stop flights from Miami (via American Airlines) and Houston (via United Airlines). Similarly, Delta Airlines will resume flights on Nov. 20 with non-stop service from Atlanta. The restoration of direct-flight service enables visitors to get to Belize in approximately three hours or less.
