Julio Paiz sentenced to 30 years for the 2021 murder of Hilberto Caliz
Twenty-one-year-old Julio Paiz has been serving time for the murder of Hilberto Caliz, a resident of San Pedrito, which occurred in 2021. After being convicted, he received a fixed sentence of 30 years on December 18th from Justice Nigel Pilgrim.

American tourist charged for girlfriend death in fatal golf cart accident in San Pedro
Following the tragic accident on Friday, December 6th, which resulted in the death of American tourist 40-year-old Jennifer Hernandez, police have charged her boyfriend, 39-year-old Isaac Jeremy Flores. He faces charges of reckless driving, driving without due care and attention, death by careless conduct, and failure to provide a specimen for analysis. Flores was arraigned at the San Pedro Magistrate Court on Monday, December 9th, where he was granted bail set at $10,000, along with a surety of $5,000. He was able to post bail and avoided being remanded to the Kolbe Foundation Central Prison in Belize. The bail conditions require that Flores attend the preliminary inquiry, as well as the High Court arraignment and trial when they are scheduled.

Mayor Wally Nuñez responds to lawsuit
The Mayor of San Pedro Town, Gualberto 'Wally' Nuñez, is facing a lawsuit over accusations that he demanded personal payment from a local business owner seeking approval for construction permits. Mayor Nuñez has denied these accusations and is currently discussing the matter with his attorney as the case is scheduled to be heard in the High Court in Belize City.

Jasmine Hartin’s case on Drug Possession and Common Assault case continues this month
Jasmine Hartin’s legal case for charges of Drug Possession and Common Assault has been adjourned until April 22nd. Hartin was to appear virtually on March 27th, but after learning the prosecutor was on sick leave, the trial was re-scheduled.
