Hol Chan Marine Reserve’s Reef Fest includes educational Trivia Competition

Hol Chan Marine Reserve held its Annual Reef Fest 2024 Primary School Trivia Competition on Wednesday, May 22nd, at the Lions Den in San Pedro Town. The tight competition started at 9:00AM, with the participation of nine contestants from five different schools: Ambergris Caye Elementary School (ACES), San Pedro Roman Catholic School (SPRCS), The Island Academy (TIA), Isla Bonita Elementary School (IBES), and the Holy Cross Anglican School (HCAS). The participants showcased their knowledge of the reef and marine ecosystems.

Mankato State University dental volunteers offer free clinics in San Pedro

Another dental mission led by a group of professional volunteers and long-time friends of San Pedro Town recently donated their services at the Smile Dental Clinic of Holy Cross Anglican School and the Dr. Otto Rodriguez San Pedro Polyclinic II. The dedicated group from Mankato State University in Minnesota, USA also visited schools on the island and shared best practices for healthy teeth.

San Pedro Smile Center Dental Clinic to host Mankato State University Dental Doctors

On Monday, February 27th, the San Pedro Smile Center Dental Clinic located at the Holy Cross Anglican School in the San Mateo area of San Pedro Town will again operate following a long pause due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The school clinic will welcome volunteers from Mankato State University in Minnesota, USA, for four days. From 8AM-4PM, the volunteering dentists will provide services to students up to 12 years of age. The program includes a second dental clinic at the Dr. Otto Rodriguez San Pedro Polyclinic II, that is open to the public, both clinics are free. The professionals will also visit the San Pedro Roman Catholic Primary School for an informative session.

ACES’ Wesley Padilla wins annual Spelling Bee Zone Eliminations

On Friday, February 3rd, the annual Bowen and Bowen Spelling Bee Belize District Zone Eliminations were held at the Sagebrush Church auditorium. Participating schools included Holy Cross Anglican School, Isla Bonita Elementary School, New Horizon Seventh Day Adventist (SDA), San Pedro Roman Catholic School, The Island Academy (TIA), and Ambergris Caye Elementary School (ACES). Three topped the spelling competition. In third place was TIA’s Mille Fuson, followed by New Horizon SDA’s Valarie Najarro, and in first place ACES’ Wesley Padilla.

COVID-19 vaccinations for children ages 5-11 begin in San Pedro

The vaccination campaign for children ages 5-11 started in San Pedro Town, Ambergris Caye, on Tuesday, May 31st, at the Holy Cross Anglican School in the San Mateo Subdivision. From 9AM to 3PM, students of these ages received the first dose of the Pfizer pediatric vaccine against the COVID-19 virus that remains very active in the country.

Crocs Sunset Sports Bar leads another successful San Pedro Christmas Collection Fundraiser

The crew at Crocs Sunset Sports Bar and a host of supporters and donors once again brought the Christmas spirit to San Pedro Town, Ambergris Caye, following a successful nine-week fundraiser effort. The annual initiative dubbed San Pedro Christmas Collection Fundraiser saw the delivery of over 1,000 meals and essentials (pantry bags) and toys to hundreds of families and children on Ambergris Caye.

Smile Clinic continues at Holy Cross

The San Pedro Smile Center Dental Clinic, located at the Holy Cross Anglican School (HCAS) in the San Mateo Area of San Pedro Town, hosted its second session of dental services to Belizean children and other members of the community on March 2nd and concluded March 5th. Doctor Mark Johnson of Annandale, Minnesota USA, founded the clinic in 2005 and has continued this volunteer effort along with his wife, Dr. Joan Johnson, ever since.

Caye Caulker’s Julian Singh wins 26th Annual Coca Cola Spelling Bee Zone Eliminations

Julian Singh from La Isla Cariñosa Academy in Caye Caulker won first place at the 26th annual Coca-Cola Spelling Bee Zone Eliminations on Monday, March 2nd.
