San Pedro Institute of Culinary Education at Holy Cross
Starting in September 2024, the San Pedro Institute of Culinary Education (SPICE) will offer a fifteen-week culinary program in collaboration with the Holy Cross Anglican School and Gaynor’s School. The goal is to teach professional culinary techniques, starting with essential skills such as sautéing, braising, roasting, grilling, and egg cookery. The program is a part-time educational activity to accommodate those interested in learning about culinary skills.

Island Rotary Club hosts another successful Back to School Supply Drive
With the assistance of many generous supporters, the Rotary Club of Ambergris Caye collected enough resources to fund its annual ‘Back to School Supply Drive.’ Members of the club joined forces on Wednesday, August 21st, to fill 280 school bags with supplies. The backpacks will benefit students from selected educational institutions on the island. The program aims to raise awareness and encourage community involvement in campaigns designed to alleviate financial challenges for families in need on the island.

The Rotary Club of Ambergris Caye calls for support for their Back to School Supply Drive
The Rotary Club of the Ambergris Caye has initiated a program to assist less fortunate students on the island. Their annual "Back to School Supply Drive" aims to identify students in need and provide them with school bags equipped with essential supplies such as exercise books, rulers, folders, pens, pencils, erasers, and geometry sets. The project, which started in 2021, is guided by Rotary International, focusing on supporting education and local children.

Holy Cross Anglican School graduates 53 primary students and 15 preschoolers
Fifty-three students received their primary school diplomas from Holy Cross Anglican School (HCAS) and will be moving on to high school, while 15 youngsters received their preschool certificates and will enter primary school. HCAS' 2024 graduation exercises began on Sunday, June 23rd, at their campus at the entrance of the San Mateo Subdivision, starting shortly after 2PM.

The Bonefish and Tarpon Trust conducts educational presentations at primary schools in the Cayes
On Wednesday, June 5th, the Bonefish and Tarpon Trust (BTT) wrapped up a series of presentations at several San Pedro Town and Caye Caulker primary schools. The science-based organization, committed to conserving flats, fisheries, and habitats, conducted educational sessions with students from Infant Two and Standard One classes. The sessions focused on protecting fisheries habitats and the life cycle of tarpon, a protected fish species in Belize.

Hol Chan Marine Reserve’s Reef Fest includes educational Trivia Competition
Hol Chan Marine Reserve held its Annual Reef Fest 2024 Primary School Trivia Competition on Wednesday, May 22nd, at the Lions Den in San Pedro Town. The tight competition started at 9:00AM, with the participation of nine contestants from five different schools: Ambergris Caye Elementary School (ACES), San Pedro Roman Catholic School (SPRCS), The Island Academy (TIA), Isla Bonita Elementary School (IBES), and the Holy Cross Anglican School (HCAS). The participants showcased their knowledge of the reef and marine ecosystems.

Mankato State University dental volunteers offer free clinics in San Pedro
Another dental mission led by a group of professional volunteers and long-time friends of San Pedro Town recently donated their services at the Smile Dental Clinic of Holy Cross Anglican School and the Dr. Otto Rodriguez San Pedro Polyclinic II. The dedicated group from Mankato State University in Minnesota, USA also visited schools on the island and shared best practices for healthy teeth.

San Pedro Smile Center Dental Clinic to host Mankato State University Dental Doctors
On Monday, February 27th, the San Pedro Smile Center Dental Clinic located at the Holy Cross Anglican School in the San Mateo area of San Pedro Town will again operate following a long pause due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The school clinic will welcome volunteers from Mankato State University in Minnesota, USA, for four days. From 8AM-4PM, the volunteering dentists will provide services to students up to 12 years of age. The program includes a second dental clinic at the Dr. Otto Rodriguez San Pedro Polyclinic II, that is open to the public, both clinics are free. The professionals will also visit the San Pedro Roman Catholic Primary School for an informative session.
