Prime Minister Signs Loan Agreement with Saudi Fund for Development to Construct Tertiary Hospital

On May 30, Prime Minister Hon. John Briceño signed a US$45-million development loan agreement with the Saudi Fund for Development (SFD) for the construction of a tertiary hospital in Belmopan. His Excellency Ahmed Al Khateeb, Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Tourism and Chairman of the Board of Directors of SFD, signed on behalf of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The World Health Organization today celebrates its 75th anniversary under the theme “Health for All.” The World Health Organization and the Pan American Health Organization (WHO/PAHO) started their operations in Belize during the early 1950s. At that time support to Belize included technical advice to the Chief Medical Officer and provision of equipment and supplies. Through the decades to today, the partnership with WHO/PAHO has substantially evolved and expanded, with emphasis on the strengthening of our health system, improving the quality of care and creating mechanisms for sustainability in the provision of health care.

Belize Receives Donation of COVID-19 Vaccines from Lithuania

On April 4, 2023, a donation of Pfizer COVID-19 vaccines for children (12 years and older) from the people and Government of Lithuania was officially handed over to the Government of Belize.

MoHW Receives Additional Donation of Medical Supplies from Taiwan

On January 9, 2023, the Ministry of Health & Wellness received a donation of 5,000 disposable non-surgical isolation gowns and 1,200 units of sanitizers from the Government of the Republic of China (Taiwan).

MoHW Receives Donation of Sanitizing Alcohol-gel from Government of Brazil

On December 12, 2022, the Ministry of Health & Wellness received a donation of 1,200 boxes (14,000 tons) of sanitizing alcohol-gel from the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Brazil and the Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO).

MoHW Strengthens National Cold Chain System through Collaboration with Government of Japan and UNICEF

On December 12, 2022, the Ministry of Health & Wellness received cold chain equipment from the Government of Japan and UNICEF at the National Vaccine Storage Facility in Belmopan. His Excellency Kazuhiro Iryu, Ambassador of the Embassy of Japan in Belize, and Alison Parker, UNICEF Representative to Belize, presented the equipment to Hon. Kevin Bernard, Minister of Health & Wellness.

Representatives of the Saudi Fund for Development Visit Belize

Eng. Bandar Alharbi, Director for Europe and Latin America Operations, and Eng. Ibrahim Alsayyar, Construction and Transportation Sector Specialist, of the Saudi Fund for Development (SFD) visited Belize from August 22 to 25, 2022. The Government of Belize has been in communication with SFD seeking opportunities for financing for a number of projects including the construction of a hospital.

UNHCR and Department of Youth Services Sign Agreement to Support Refugee, local Youth in Belize

On July 23rd 2021, UNHCR, the UN Refugee Agency and the Department of Youth Services signed a Memorandum of Understanding to jointly support refugee and Belizean youth. Both entities will coordinate and collaborate on actions to support the protection and inclusion of young men and women affected by forced displacement.
