Belize Hosts Second Regional Environmental Congress of CCAD

Belize, as President Pro Tempore under the Central American Integration System (SICA), hosted the Second Regional Environmental Congress of the Central American Commission on the Environment and Development (CCAD) at the Ramada Hotel in Belize City. The event was held under the theme, “Interregional Unity: Enhancing Human Security and Environmental Resilience.”

The Department of the Environment Donate Refrigeration Tools and Equipment to the Belize City ITVET

Hon. Orlando Habet, Minister of Sustainable Development, Climate Change and Disaster Risk Management handed over an assortment of refrigeration tools and equipment worth approximately $15,000 to Reuel Black, General Manager of the Institute for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (ITVET) at a brief handing over ceremony held on January 11, 2023. The tools and equipment will be used to strengthen the Institute’s refrigeration & air conditioning (RAC) Certification Program; building capacity in students to work with new alternative refrigerants and modern equipment in the refrigeration and air conditioning sector to provide high quality service to the public.

Belize Assumes Pro Tempore Presidency of CCAD

On January 12, 2023, Hon. Orlando Habet, Minister of Sustainable Development, Climate Change and Disaster Risk, officially assumed the Pro Tempore Presidency (PTP) of the Central American Commission of the Environment and Development (CCAD) for the period January 1 to June 30, 2023.

Belize Delegation Participates in the GCF Global Conference in Korea

A high-level Belize Delegation led by Hon. Christopher Coye, Minister of State in the Ministry of Finance, Economic Development and Investment, and Hon. Orlando Habet, Minister of Sustainable Development, Climate Change and Disaster Risk Management, participated in the second Green Climate Fund (GCF) Global Programming Conference, from September 13 to 15, 2022, in Incheon, Republic of Korea.

U.S. Government-Funded Emergency Response Vehicles Arrive in Belize

The second of two U.S. Air Force flights scheduled to transport emergency response vehicles to Belize this month, arrived on July 21, 2022 carrying two ambulances, two support trucks, and an array of medical supplies. This donation underscores the continuing partnership between the United States and Belize to improve Belize’s emergency and disaster response capabilities and is made possible through an ongoing U.S. government-funded Central America Regional Security Initiative – Economic Support Fund (CARSI-ESF) grant.
