King Charles III officially crowned; Belize has a new monarch
The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and the Commonwealth nations recognizing the British crown as their Head of State were part of the historic coronation of King Charles III on Saturday, May 6th, at Westminster Abbey in London, England. The event also saw the coronation of Queen Consort Camilla. Belize is one of the Commonwealth realm countries with ties to the British monarchy and was represented at the coronation by a delegation led by Governor General Her Excellency Dame Froyla Tzalam, the Minister of Education, Culture, Science and Technology, Honourable Francis Fonseca.

Independent poll suggests Belize is in favor of maintaining ties with the British Monarchy
On Saturday, May 6th, the official coronation of King Charles III will take place in London, England. Charles assumed the position following his mother’s death in September 2022. With this change, King Charles became the head of state in most of the Commonwealth countries, including Belize. However, some of these countries are considering cutting ties with the British monarchy, and according to a recent survey conducted by Lord Michael Ashcroft Polls, Belize would keep the Brit as head of state.

Belize’s Head of State, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, dies at 96
On Thursday, September 8th, Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II passed away at her summer retreat at Balmoral Castle, Scotland. At the age of 96 years, she was the longest-serving British monarch and queen of not only the United Kingdom (UK) but the Commonwealth realm of which Belize is part of. Her eldest son will now become King Charles III and Belize’s new Head of State.
