Everette Anderson installed as President for San Pedro Lions Club

The San Pedro Lions Club installed a new president and board of directors on Saturday, July 24th. Everette Anderson accepted the task of leading the club and was sworn in as president. The new president and his team look forward to working hard for the island community.

Terminated SPTC employees to receive additional compensation

After indicating that his administration would not pay additional money to former employees, Mayor Gualberto ‘Wally’ Nuñez and his team have now agreed to compensate the terminated staff adequately. The additional funds are expected to be paid within the next month. The San Pedro Town Council’s (SPTC) legal team has been dealing with a complaint by some 15 former employees, who claim they did not receive their proper severance package after they were dismissed from their posts when the new administration came into power.

Mayor-elect Gualberto 'Wally' Nuñez and his six councillors were sworn in on Monday, March 8th, during a short ceremony at the Ambergris Stadium. The swearing-in was carried out by Legal Counsel Eduardo Aguilar and Senior Justice of the Peace Evelia Paz. The occasion was also attended by the Prime Minister of Belize, the Honourable John Briceño, Area Representative and Minister of the Blue Economy and Civil Aviation, the Honourable Andre Perez, Minister of Health and Wellness (MOHW), the Honourable Michel Chebat, and a host of friends and family members.

After 18 years under a UDP leadership, San Pedro has a PUP Town Council; Wally Nuñez is Mayor

The People’s United Party (PUP) slate, led by Mayoral candidate Gualberto ‘Wally’ Nuñez, was declared the winner of the 2021 Municipal Elections held on Wednesday, March 3rd in San Pedro Town. The swap in power brought an end to almost two decades of control by the United Democratic Party (UDP), which has governed the island since 2003.

Electorate turnout picking up in San Pedro municipal elections

With a total of 4,029 cast by 4PM, a slight increase in the turnout of the electorate was observed. With less than two hours before the polls officially close, the recent update shows about 50% of registered voters have cast their ballot, with a further increase anticipated by the end of the day. 

San Pedro Lions Club gift palm trees to schools on the island

The grounds of San Pedro Roman Catholic Primary School and the New Horizon Seventh Day Adventist School received their share of palm trees courtesy of the San Pedro Lions Club. Ninety-six trees were distributed between both schools, and members of the club assisted in the planting on Sunday, January 31st.
