Martin Dawson named director in Belize for Mexican Kickboxing Association and presents title belt to be disputed in 2022 match
On Monday, December 20th, island mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter and instructor, Martin Dawson, was officially named the representative of Teyaochihuani in Belize, an independent association of kickboxing and self-defence based in the Mexican state of Veracruz. Dawson was visited by Teyaochihuani’s president and Mexico’s national director of kickboxing Ernesto Hernandez. Both are currently working on hosting at least two kickboxing events in Belize next year, with a title match that will see a Belizean champion representing the country at an international fight in Veracruz in July of 2022.

Martin Dawson prepares to represent in MMA tournament in Mexico
San Pedro's Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) coach and fighter, Martin Dawson, continues to prepare for an upcoming competition on November 27th in Banderilla, Veracruz, Mexico. The MMA tournament, organized by La Asociación Teyaochihuani La FIMT-IMTF MEXICO, is dubbed 'Gala de Campeones-Night of Eternal Stars' and will feature 20 fights (kickboxing and Muay Thai), including international matches with fighters from across Mexico, Brazil, France, and Belize.

Islander Anthony Coleman heads to Mexico to compete in kickboxing match
Bilateral amputee Anthony Coleman will compete at the Guerrero Siscomada Tournament, a Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) event in Mexico on Sunday, September 12th. Coleman is certified in Limalama, which is a self-defense type of martial arts combined with attack techniques.

Jazelie ‘Jaz’ Azueta hosts Women Self Defense classes
In honor of Women's Month, on Saturday, March 27th, several ladies in San Pedro Town participated in a Women's Self-Defence program organized by islander Jazelie 'Jaz' Azueta. The event included collaboration from Martin Dawson of Dawson's Pit Fighters, athlete and islander Kent 'Bob' Gabourel, and Captain Shark's Belize.

Lima Lama Central American Federation Founded; Martin Dawson represents Belize
Representatives from five Central American countries, including Belize, convened in San Salvador, El Salvador on Saturday, February 22nd to pen the foundation of a Lima Lama federation for Central America. Lima Lama is a Polynesian type of martial arts that teaches self-defense and highlights confidence, respect, and discipline.

For the first time, a fun and educational kids and youth Jujutsu Tournament was held in San Pedro Town on Saturday, October 12th. The Angel Nuñez Auditorium was the venue where island youngsters showcased their Jujutsu techniques and skills.

Ten teen girls complete Hope Haven’s Teen Dating Abuse Program
Ten island girls completed Hope Haven’s and MPLUSE Studio Teen Dating Abuse Program held from Monday, July 15th to Thursday, July 25th at the Hope Haven facility. The program aimed to offer a safe space for teenage girls to learn about the red flags of teen dating, violence, and how to ask for support.

Islanders enjoy Beach Brawl MMA fight night
The growing MMA fever has given room to international events on the island, with the latest held on Friday, May 17th at Caribbean Villas beach resort. The fight night, named ‘Beach Brawl,’ exceeded everyone’s expectations and saw 11 fights involving Belizean and Mexican fighters in various categories.
