GOB Strengthens HIV Response Through New Partnership

The Ministry of Economic Transformation (MET) and the National Health Insurance (NHI) signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to advance the national HIV response on August 11, 2025. The agreement was signed by Mr. Carlos Pol, Chief Executive Officer of MET, and Dr. Ramon Figueroa, General Manager of NHI, in the presence of the Honourable Dolores Balderamos, Senior Minister of State in the Office of the Prime Minister and Chair of the National AIDS Commission.

Belize Attends COSEFIN Meeting

Belize participated in the 56th Ordinary Meeting of the Council of Ministers of Finance of Central America, Panama, and the Dominican Republic (COSEFIN), held on July 31, 2025, in Antigua Guatemala. The delegation was led by Hon. Christopher Coye, Minister of State in the Ministry of Finance, and included Carlos Pol, CEO of the Ministry of Economic Transformation; H.E. Jose Alpuche, Belize's Ambassador to the Republic of Guatemala; and Ms. Cinnamon Bottaro, Belize’s representative to the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) Board of Executive Directors.

GOB Announces DFC’s Accreditation by the Green Climate Fund

The Government of Belize announces that the Green Climate Fund Board has approved the Development Finance Corporation’s (DFC) bid as an accredited entity on July 1, 2025, during the 42nd board meeting held in Papua New Guinea.

MET Concludes High-level Mission with the World Bank Group

The Ministry of Economic Transformation (MET) and the World Bank Group (WBG), which includes the World Bank and the International Finance Corporation (IFC), concluded a high-level mission to Belize, led by Carlos Felipe Jaramillo, World Bank Vice President for Latin America and the Caribbean, and Alfonso García Mora, IFC Vice President for Latin America and the Caribbean, on June 20, 2025.

Belize Participates in the Brazil-Caribbean Summit

The Ministry of Economic Transformation represented the Government of Belize at the Brazil-Caribbean Summit held in Brasilia, Brazil. The high-level meeting brought together heads of government and senior officials from the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) and Brazil to strengthen regional cooperation across critical areas, including food and nutrition security, climate change, energy transition, disaster risk management, and connectivity.

National Meteorological Service/Resilient Rural Belize Weather Station Installation

The Government of Belize (GOB), through the Ministry of Economic Transformation (MET) and the Resilient Rural Belize Programme (RRB), with funding from GOB, the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and the Green Climate Fund (GCF), provided weather sensors to the National Meteorological Service (NMS) of Belize to upgrade and support the growth of observation network in 2024. These sensors assist the Climate Services section in providing real-time weather information to rural farmers and households in Belize.

Green Climate Fund Approves Readiness Proposal for Belize

The Ministry of Economic Transformation, through its Climate Finance Unit (CFU), has successfully secured a BZD 1.9 million grant from the Green Climate Fund (GCF) via its readiness modality. This milestone marks a significant step, as the Ministry is now accessing direct funding from the world’s largest climate fund to advance Belize’s climate change agenda and national priorities included in #PlanBelize2.0.

Government of Belize and World Bank Group Advance Country Partnership Framework for Sustainable Development

The Ministry of Economic Transformation (MET) and the World Bank Group (WBG) completed an in-country mission in preparation for the development of Belize’s new Country Partnership Framework (CPF), the institution’s engagement strategy within the country for the next ten (10) years.
