Blue Teddy Bear Campaign launched to strengthen child protection efforts
Belize has officially launched the national “Blue Teddy Bear Campaign” to address violence and sexual abuse against children. Government agencies, UNICEF, and community partners introduced the initiative in Belize City, with plans for outreach in San Pedro. The event occurred on March 20th under the leadership of the National Commission for Families and Children (NCFC), in collaboration with UNICEF Belize and the Ministry of Human Development, Family Support, and Gender Affairs.

Consultation on New Domestic Violence Prohibition Bill Held in San Pedro
The Government of Belize (GOB), through the Ministry of Human Development, Family Support and Gender Affairs and the National Women’s Commission (NWC), continues its nationwide series of public consultations on the proposed Domestic Violence Prohibition Bill. On Wednesday, December 17th, the campaign reached San Pedro Town, Ambergris Caye, where a consultation session was held at the former House of Culture. A small group of island residents attended, the majority of whom were police officers.

Belize Authorities Pledge Stronger Protection After Domestic Violence Tragedy
Belizean authorities and government partners have united in condemnation following the brutal killing of 35-year-old Angelita Magaña and her two children, 6-year-old Tishan and 17-year-old Shadia, who perished in a house fire in San Felipe Village, Orange Walk District, on October 20, 2025. Police investigations indicate the blaze was intentionally set by Magaña’s ex-partner, Francisco Godoy, who had a prior history of domestic violence and was released from jail just days before the attack.
