Department of Environment participates in International Plastics Treaty negotiations
Belize enacted the Environmental Protection (Pollution from Plastics) Regulations in 2020, which prohibits the importation of single-use plastic bags and Styrofoam products. The aim of the legislation is to protect human health and the environment from the adverse effects of plastic pollution. The Department of the Environment, within the Ministry of Sustainable Development and Climate Change, regulates the provisions of the law and is currently evaluating its implementation.

Adaptation Fund Board Approves BZ$8 Million for Belize
At the 42nd Board Meeting of the Adaptation Fund, BZ$8 million was approved for Belize to implement a project entitled; “Enhancing the Resilience of Belize’s Coastal Communities to Climate Change Impacts." This project is slated for implementation through the Protected Areas Conservation Trust.

The Government of Belize, through the Ministry of Sustainable Development and Climate Change in partnership with the Ministry of Youth, Sport and Transport, and the UN System, hosted the first-ever National Youth Conference on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), anchored on the Voluntary National Review (VNR).
