Minister of the Blue Economy and Civil Aviation attends International Civil Aviation Negotiating Event in Colombia

The Honourable Andre Perez, Area Representative for Belize Rural South (BRS), including Ambergris Caye and Caye Caulker, has been busy in his Ministry of the Blue Economy and Civil Aviation. The portfolio often requires him to travel out of the country, and his recent trip took him to Bogota, Colombia, for the International Civil Aviation Negotiating Event 2021.

The Ministry of the Blue Economy sets five-year strategic management plan

The Ministry of the Blue Economy and Civil Aviation has introduced its five-year strategic management plan to achieve sustainable economic development for healthy marine environments and a strong economy derived from the wealth within the sea. The ministry counts with the support of an advisory body known as a ‘Cluster,’ providing high-level guidance and direction during the initial stages of establishing a framework and successfully executing a sustainable blue economy for the country.

New regulation introduced to protect shark populations in Belize

Shark fishing around Lighthouse Reef Atoll, Glover’s Reef, and Turneffe Atoll will no longer be allowed after the Government of Belize (GOB) officially banned this practice on June 25th. This new regulation was announced by the Ministry of the Blue Economy and Civil Aviation. It is welcomed by many environmental organizations, who believe the move will establish a haven for sharks across an area of approximately 1,500 square miles.

New Taiwanese Ambassador visits San Pedro Town

His Excellency Taiwanese Ambassador David Kuan-Chou Chien paid a visit to San Pedro Town on Saturday, May 15th. He met with Area Representative the Honourable Andre Perez, Mayor Gualberto ‘Wally’ Nuñez, and their teams. They engaged in important discussions on how the island authorities can work together with the Taiwanese Embassy.

Belize Rural South Area Representative supports 2021-2022 budget: what’s happening in BRS

On the last day of the debate on the proposed 2021-2022 $1.03 billion national budget by members of the House of Representatives on Friday, April 23rd, Belize Rural South (BRS) representative the Honourable Andre Perez stood up to support it. In his presentation, he discussed how the budget will assist his Ministry of the Blue Economy and Civil Aviation and what is ahead for BRS, including Ambergris Caye and Caye Caulker.

Ministry of Blue Economy and Civil Aviation Meets with Belize Coast Guard

During the meeting, the BCG discussed its role in securing the space necessary for economic development and the safety of actors and stakeholders in Belize’s maritime areas. Also highlighted was the mandate of the BCG to safeguard maritime resources which are central to the blue economy and livelihoods.

Ministry of Blue Economy Meets with BELTRAIDE

On February 9, 2021, the Ministry of the Blue Economy and Civil Aviation held a virtual familiarization meeting with the Executive Director of the Belize Trade and Investment Development Service (BELTRAIDE).
