The Ministry of Human Development, Family Support, and Gender Affairs (MHDFSGA), in partnership with UNICEF and the National Commission for Families and Children (NCFC), has embarked on a transformative national initiative aimed at addressing one of the most fundamental challenges facing Belize, ensuring all parents and caregivers have access to coordinated and evidence-based support to raise healthy, thriving children. This initiative marks a significant investment in the future of Belize by strengthening the foundation of the family through improved parenting support systems.

NCFC hosts workshop on legal restrictions and sanctions of reporting on minors

On February 21, 2025, the National Commission for Families and Children (NCFC) in Belize held a journalism workshop at the Caribbean Motors Board Room. This event aimed to educate media professionals about the legal boundaries and penalties associated with reporting on minors and other vulnerable groups. The workshop emphasized the significance of protecting the rights and privacy of children in media coverage in alignment with international and national commitments to ensure their well-being.

Minimum age for legal marriage in Belize to be raised from 16 to 18

At the recent meeting of the Children's Parliament, participants engaged in discussions and debates about the Prohibition of Child Marriage Bill. Although initially a simulated session, the bill gained traction and is expected to be presented in a formal parliamentary assembly. The National Commission for Families and Children (NCFC) and Women's Commission have led these efforts and have been facilitating discussions aimed at eradicating child marriages. One of the main proposals is to raise the legal marriage age from 16 to 18.

Road Safety for Children: A Reminder for Parents

The Ministry of Families, Children and Indigenous Peoples’ Affairs and the National Commission for Families and Children note an increase in road traffic accidents involving children and children being transported on our roadways in very unsafe conditions.
