San Pedro celebrates Central American and Mexican independence

An evening full of great food, entertainment, and cultural presentation brought back the anticipated Noche Centro Americana to San Pedro Town on Friday, September 16th. The event, which experienced a hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, serves to celebrate the independence day celebrations of five Central American countries and Mexico.

PM Briceño said he did not chastise US President at Summit of the Americas

During a press briefing on Wednesday, June 15th, the first since he took office in 2020, Prime Minister the Honourable Dr. John Briceño said he did not chastise the United States (US) President Joseph Biden during his speech at the recent Summit of the Americas. Briceño made headlines when he openly criticized the decision of the US host to exclude Cuba, Nicaragua, and Venezuela from the summit held June 6-10 in Los Angeles, California, on the west coast of the US.

Belize Jaguars play against Nicaragua in World Cup qualifier

The Belize National Football Team, the Jaguars, played an away match in the World Cup Qualifiers against Nicaragua on Friday, June 4th. The game took place at 7PM in Managua, Nicaragua, and is the third match the Belizean team will play in a series to qualify for the World Cup event in Qatar next year. While the Jaguars demonstrated much skill on the field, they fell short leading to a 3-0 victory for the Nicaraguan Selection.

Belize National Football Team resumes training before World Cup qualifying game against Nicaragua

In less than a month, the national football team of Belize, the Jaguars, will be playing against Nicaragua as they continue their journey to the FIFA World Cup in Qatar in 2022. In preparation for the critical qualifier game, the ‘A’ team has been called to camp in Belmopan City to continue training before facing the Nicaraguan team.

IDB, World Bank and CABEI expand support for Central America in wake of second hurricane

Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) president Mauricio Claver-Carone convened a virtual meeting last Friday, November 20th with leaders and ministers of Belize, Costa Rica, Honduras, El Salvador, Guatemala and Nicaragua, along with World Bank Group president David Malpass and Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) president Dante Mossi, to update the action plan for helping these countries to deal with the impacts of hurricanes Eta and Iota.

Belize’s Jalyssa Arthurs wins Miss CentroAmerica 2019

For the first time a Belizean beauty ambassador, 19-year-old Jalyssa Arthurs has captured the title of Miss CentroAmerica. The beauty pageant, held on Monday, November 25th at the José De La Cruz Mena Theater in the city of León, Nicaragua, saw the participation of delegates from El Salvador, Nicaragua, Guatemala, Honduras, Costa Rica, and Honduras.

Belize’s U-18 Football Team sub-champions of the UNCAF Tournament

The Belize Under (U) 18 Football Team return to the country on Monday, October 28th with Silver after becoming the sub-champions of the Union Centro Americana de Futbol (UNCAF) tournament held in Costa Rica. The U-18 Jaguars fell short against the host, Costa Rica, 0-4 during the championship match on Saturday, October 26th.
