Island athletes Kian Trejo and Kent ‘Bob’ Gabourel participate in a cyclist race in Cancun, Mexico

Over the weekend, on Saturday, July 8th, islanders Kent ‘Bob’ Gabourel and Kian Trejo participated in the night road bicycle race dubbed Criterium Cancun 2023 in Cancun, Quintana Roo, Mexico. The event consisted of a close-circuit race on the cobblestoned route at Cancun's Malecon Tajamar (stone-built embankment).

SENASICA Approves the Entire Country for Cattle Export

The Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security & Enterprise is pleased to report that the Servicio Nacional de Sanidad, Inocuidad y Calidad Agroalimentaria (SENASICA, which is Mexico’s equivalent of the Belize Agricultural Health Authority) has granted approval for the entire country of Belize to export cattle to Mexico. The approval is a direct result of the bilateral meeting on agriculture held in Chetumal, Quintana Roo, between Belize and Mexico in July 2021.

Ministries of Investment and Agriculture Visit Southern Quintana Roo on Familiarization Tour

Senior representatives of the Ministry of Finance, Economic Development and Investment and the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security, and Enterprise visited Quintana Roo as part of an Investment Exchange Programme, which entailed a familiarization tour to an industrial park and agro-processing facilities in the southern part of the Mexican state. Hon. Jose Abelardo Mai, Minister of Agriculture, Food Security and Enterprise, led the Belize delegation.

Prime Minister sees the possibility to connect Ambergris Caye with Mexico

Following Prime Minister John Briceño's state visit to Mexico last month, the idea to connect northern Ambergris Caye with the Mexican Yucatan Peninsula via a bridge was one of the proposed projects discussed. Mexico is currently working on a 948-mile intercity railway system dubbed 'Tren Maya,' beginning from Palenque, Chiapas traveling northeast to Quintana Roo and Yucatan near Belize. The aim is to connect tourist destinations in the said region by offering access to pristine destinations and even hop across the border into Belize.

Belize and Mexico hold Bilateral Agriculture Meeting

Belize and Mexico held a bilateral working meeting in Chetumal, Quintana Roo, Mexico, on Thursday, July 8, 2021, led by Hon. Jose Abelardo Mai, Minister of Agriculture, and his Mexican counterpart, Victor Manuel Villalobos Arambula, Secretary of Agriculture. The meeting focused on partnership, cooperation and agreements between both countries and included discussions on technical topics such as agriculture, livestock, and aquaculture.

Pink Eye reported in Mexico prompt island health authorities to take precautions

After the Ministry of Health (MOH) alerted the country of an increase in cases of Conjunctivitis (Pink Eye) in the neighbouring Mexican State of Quintana Roo, health authorities in San Pedro Town are taking precautions to avoid an outbreak on the island.
