Parliament Signs Record of Donation of Grant from the Republic of China (Taiwan) for Renovations of the National Assembly Building

On December 5, 2023, parliamentarians of the National Assembly of Belize officially recognized a donation that the Republic of China (Taiwan) will make toward substantial renovations of the National Assembly building in Belmopan. The Government and people of the Republic of China (Taiwan) have committed to a donation of US$792,125.30, which will be used to modernize the infrastructure of National Assembly building.

Minister of State in the Ministry of Education, Hon. Dr. Louis Zabaneh, distributes Chromebooks in San Pedro schools

Since October, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Science and Technology (MoECST) has been distributing Chromebooks donated by the Republic of China (Taiwan) to primary and high school students in Belize. On Tuesday, December 5th, the distribution of these devices came to San Pedro Town, Ambergris Caye, benefiting the San Pedro High School (SPHS) and two primary schools.

MoECST Commences Distribution of 5,000 Chromebooks Donated by the Republic of China (Taiwan)

The Ministry of Education, Culture, Science and Technology (MoECST) has commenced the distribution of 5,000 Chromebooks donated by the Republic of China (Taiwan). These devices were pledged in April during the State Visit of H.E. Tsai Ing-Wen, President of the Republic of China (Taiwan), and were recently delivered to the MoECST.

Ministry of Agriculture and Taiwan ICDF Host Sheep & Goat Management Workshop in Belize District

On September 28, 2023, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security and Enterprise, in collaboration with the Taiwan ICDF Breeding Sheep and Goat Production and Guidance System Enhancement Project (Sheep Project Phase II), held a Sheep & Goat Management Workshop in Bermudan Landing Village, Belize District.

Belize Receives Hurricane Lisa Relief Items from the Taiwanese Business Community

Belize received a significant donation of supplies pledged by the Taiwanese business community to support Hurricane Lisa relief efforts. Following the devastating impact of Hurricane Lisa in November 2022, the Embassy of Belize in the Republic of China (Taiwan) initiated the "We are Family: Help for Belize” fundraiser. The campaign mobilized support from 32 donors among Taiwan’s business community and private sector.

Belize and the Republic of China (Taiwan) Sign MOU for Collaboration on CORVI

On August 11, Dr. Osmond Martinez, CEO in the Ministry of Economic Development, and Ambassador Charles Chao-Cheng Li, Secretary General of the Taiwan International Cooperation and Development Fund (TaiwanICDF), signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for a project on Climate and Ocean Risk Vulnerability Index (CORVI) data and survey collection for Belize City and its surrounding areas.

Caye Caulker entrepreneur produces alkaline water with support from a Guatemalan university

Caye Caulker resident Celina Jimenez is the creator of Island Fresh Water, a newly established business offering alkaline water in Belize. This business venture was made possible with the support of Universidad del Valle Guatemala (UVG) in Guatemala City through a pilot project geared toward developing women entrepreneurs from Guatemala and Belize. The program hosted in collaboration with the Center for Promotion of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises helped improve the entrepreneurs’ current businesses and products.

Belize and TaiwanICDF Donate Sheep to Guatemala

The Ministry of Agriculture, Food Security and Enterprise (MAFSE), in collaboration with the Taiwan International Cooperation and Development Fund (TaiwanICDF) Breeding Sheep and Goat Production and Guidance System Enhancement Project, donated four breeding sheep to the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food of the Republic of Guatemala (MAGA) on April 29. The Dorper, Katahdin, and Barbados Black Belly sheep breeds will be used to improve the existing genetic stock at MAGA.
