New Horizon SDA gets murals painted courtesy of the Island Rotary Club

The Rotary Club of Ambergris Caye, in partnership with the Rotary Club of Penn Hills, Pennsylvania, USA, recently painted beautiful murals on the walls of the bathrooms at the New Horizon SDA Primary School. The artists Sarah Parker and Debbie Graniel aimed to showcase all aspects of Belize to the children, including the sea, flora, and positive quotes to motivate them throughout their lives.

Island Donors Squad advances blood collection on Ambergris Caye in Belize

Ambitious goals for increasing blood collection on Ambergris Caye have been established by the newly formed coalition of the Island Donors Squad (IDS) on Ambergris Caye. Tacogirl, Laurie Norton, is bringing her ten years’ experience in island blood drives to team with Ambergris Hope Hospital and The Rotary Club of Ambergris Caye to establish the foundation of IDS. Working closely with Belize National Blood Transfusion Services (BNBTS), the goal is to increase blood collection and related services on the island and beyond.

Rotary contributes towards painting and renewing the New Horizon SDA School bathroom

The Rotary Club of Ambergris Caye is currently involved in a project to paint and repair the New Horizon SDA School. Supplies were ordered in early February, and the work began on March 14th with power washing the bathroom walls to remove excess dirt and old paint.

20 deserving islanders receive wheelchairs via the Rotary Club of Ambergris Caye

The Rotary Club of Ambergris Caye, through a partnership with Chair The Love, distributed 20 new wheelchairs to some of the most deserving island residents. The generous donation coincided with the Christmas season of giving and saw the distribution of 250 wheelchairs nationwide.

Island students receive school supplies and back-to-school haircuts

The new school year has started, and thousands of students are returning to classes nationwide. The summer break that sees students preparing to return to another school cycle also includes the participation of local non-governmental and governmental organizations assisting the neediest with school supplies and even free back-to-school haircuts. This year, the Rotary Club of Ambergris Caye, the San Pedro Town Council, and other citizen-driven groups assisted island students.

Rotary Club of Ambergris Caye completes project at Brighter Tomorrow Preschool

The renovation works at the Brighter Tomorrow Preschool in the San Pedrito subdivision by volunteers, and members of the Rotary Club of Ambergris Caye are complete. The preschool now counts with renovated grounds and new supplies for students and classrooms. The special occasion was celebrated on Monday, April 3rd, which included refreshments and the acknowledgment of those involved in the project.

Rotary Club of Ambergris Caye making a difference at Brighter Tomorrow Preschool in San Pedrito

Over the past weeks, club volunteers have helped replace a fence and gate, painting and replacing items in the playground. According to them, the school needed a lot of assistance, which Rotarian Rafael Torres brought to the club’s attention. According to Marisa Willment, managing the project, after speaking to the school’s administration, teacher Ariani Gongora and Javier Gongora, the principal and owner of Brighter Tomorrow, decided to forge ahead and work on it getting donations and volunteers on board.

Rotary Club of Ambergris Caye hosts organ donation guest speaker Avil Srivatsa

During their weekly meetings, on Wednesday, October 26th, the Rotary Club of Ambergris Caye hosted a special guest who is traveling on a mission from his hometown in India. Avil Srivatsa is the Managing Trustee of the Gift of Life Adventure Foundation and the Charter President of the world’s first cause-based Rotary Club of Organ Donations. Srivatsa’s mission is to speak to 100 Rotary Clubs and spread the same message he brought to Belize, ‘uniting Rotary for organ donations,’ and save lives.
