Constance ‘Connee’ Jo Cantrill Obituary

Connee was one of a kind who loved life and was a social butterfly with a warm heart and never knew a stranger! She enjoyed cooking and trying new recipes only to then share them with friends, especially at the holiday’s when she enjoyed decorating for Christmas both at home and at her second home in Belize.

Another successful spay and neuter campaign held at Saga Humane Society

During the week of Sunday, August 18th, to Friday, August 23rd, the Saga Humane Society carried out an important initiative. They provided complimentary spaying and neutering services for the local community of Ambergris Caye. The program was successful, with 107 dogs undergoing the essential procedure. The dedicated team, including Nurse Lisa Oldroyd, Ingrid Lima, Dr. Laureen Battlefield, and event sponsor Terry Stone, played crucial roles in helping promote responsible pet ownership on the island.

Saga thanks island residents for fostering pets during the storm

During the hurricane season, typically from June through October, the region is most susceptible to heavy rainfall and strong winds that can develop into damaging storms. As bad weather approaches, residents and business owners put much effort into securing their homes, families, and business spaces. Safety preparations also need to be made for pets, and the Saga Humane Society relies on the community's crucial role in fostering pets in need during these challenging times.

Saga’s new animal shelter to be completed by November

The Saga Humane Society Animal Shelter has been situated on Sea Star Street in Ambergris Caye since 1999. Now, they are building a new headquarters, which has been one of their main goals. The construction is to be completed by the end of November this year. The shelter aims to set a new standard for animal care in San Pedro with their new facility, located at the northern end of Sea Grape Drive, known as the "Fort Dog" location, where rescued and surrendered dogs are currently housed.

“Saving Pets One at a Time” hosts annual pet clinic in San Pedro

This past week, "Saving Pets One at a Time" (SPOTS), a team led by Hailey Adams from Phoenix, Arizona, USA, was on a mission to provide free vaccines to cats and dogs on the island. During these campaigns, they partner with local businesses and organizations, including the Saga Humane Society and the San Pedro Animal Hospital, to offer free spaying, neutering, and DHLPP vaccines. The pop-up clinics across town included the San Mateo Subdivision, the Boca del Rio area at Sandy Toes Beach Bar, and south of town at Island Jungle Restaurant and Bar.

More Cases of Animal cruelty on the island

Saga Humane Society, a non-profit organization and veterinary clinic in San Pedro, Ambergris Caye, has received many calls lately about pets in bad condition, such as abuse and neglect. With the weather's high temperatures, animals have been reportedly dying of neglect from heatstroke and dehydration.

Third Annual Kentucky Derby benefit for Saga Humane Society a profitable and entertaining success

Flaire and fanfare of the world-renowned horse race, the Kentucky Derby, served as the theme for the third annual benefit for Saga Humane Society on Saturday, May 4th. Hosted by Kristen Newton, owner of Someplace South CafeBar where the event was held, dozens of Saga volunteers organized the details, which included an impressive selection of silent auction items and raffle prizes. Adding to the entertainment was the Fancy Hat and Human Dressage (a form of horse riding performed in exhibitions and competitions) contests that amused the jovial crowd.

Murder Mystery Dinner Theatre entertains while benefiting local nonprofit organizations.

For the second year, a band of community actors and The Black Orchid Restaurant joined forces to entertain the community with a Murder Mystery Dinner Theatre with two performances to raise funds for nonprofit organizations on Ambergris Caye.
