Saga Humane Society, a non-profit organization and veterinary clinic in San Pedro, Ambergris Caye, has received many calls lately about pets in bad condition, such as abuse and neglect. With the weather's high temperatures, animals have been reportedly dying of neglect from heatstroke and dehydration.

Third Annual Kentucky Derby benefit for Saga Humane Society a profitable and entertaining success
Flaire and fanfare of the world-renowned horse race, the Kentucky Derby, served as the theme for the third annual benefit for Saga Humane Society on Saturday, May 4th. Hosted by Kristen Newton, owner of Someplace South CafeBar where the event was held, dozens of Saga volunteers organized the details, which included an impressive selection of silent auction items and raffle prizes. Adding to the entertainment was the Fancy Hat and Human Dressage (a form of horse riding performed in exhibitions and competitions) contests that amused the jovial crowd.

Murder Mystery Dinner Theatre entertains while benefiting local nonprofit organizations.
For the second year, a band of community actors and The Black Orchid Restaurant joined forces to entertain the community with a Murder Mystery Dinner Theatre with two performances to raise funds for nonprofit organizations on Ambergris Caye.

At the end of every month, Saga Humane Society offers low-cost vaccines for cats and dogs at a discounted price. Walk-ins are now available, and no appointment is needed to get a vaccine for your pet.

This letter is to announce that Saga Humane Society is once again on the fundraising trail. To assist us, the crew at Someplace South is holding their 3rd Annual Kentucky Derby Benefit Fundraiser! This event will take place on Saturday, May 4th from 12PM-5PM.
As you may know, construction has begun on our new facility following the renovation of the “Fort Dog” kennels.

In 1999, Saga Humane Society proactively cared for the island’s dog and cat population. With a mission to prevent cruelty and replace it with kindness to all animals, the non-profit operates off donations and volunteers. As San Pedro continues to grow, so do Saga’s efforts. Hoping to continue offering its services, Saga is working towards realizing its primary goal, with a new building to host its animal shelter, office, and clinic.
