Saga Humane Society unveils plan for new animal shelter and headquarters
San Pedro’s Saga Humane Society is realizing one of its primary goals - building a new animal shelter and offices at the northern end of Seagrape Drive. Situated at the same “Fort Dog” location where Saga dogs are housed, this upgrade has been possible thanks to generous donations.

Saga Humane Society to host Open House
Saga Humane Society is pleased to announce an official OPEN HOUSE to be held this Saturday, April 1st, from 10am to 2pm at the Main Clinic on Seastar Street. This event is extremely necessary due to overcrowding at the shelter. There are currently an unprecedented amount of animals available for foster/adoption, namely 60 dogs and 78 cats in need of loving homes.

SPTC to provide monthly support to Saga Humane Society
The well-being of domestic animals on Ambergris Caye is taken seriously by the non-profit organization Saga Humane Society, a key player in rescuing and sheltering homeless dogs and cats. Their work is costly and challenging. SACNW and Saga Humane Society benefit from annual Kelly McGuire birthday bash
Every February, award-winning country singer/songwriter Kelly McGuire comes to San Pedro Town to celebrate his birthday with performances to raise funds for local non-profit organizations. The South Ambergris Caye Neighborhood Watch (SACNW) and the island’s Saga Humane Society are two recipients. The events are not just fun but worthy causes that generated much-needed funds for these two vital organizations on the island.

Recent dog attacks prompt discussions of the Dog Act on the island
The situation with aggressive and abusive dogs in certain subdivisions of San Pedro Town is becoming a concern as residents have reported attacks on their pets while in public areas. Many of these injured pets have reportedly ended up at the Saga Humane Society for treatment. A recent incident in which a dog was badly injured by one of these aggressive dogs has prompted Saga to seek a meeting with the San Pedro Town Council and police, to look into the Belize Dog Act and enforce regulations that will make public areas (such as streets) safe for all pets.

Mission accomplished! Saga spays/neuters and vaccinates over 100 cats and dogs
San Pedro’s Saga Humane Society exceeded their goal and spayed/neutered and vaccinated 105 animals (61 dogs and 44 cats) at no cost in just four days. Initially, the aim was to offer the free clinic service for 100 animals, but thanks to the outpouring of support from volunteers and donors, the team at Saga was able to go beyond that number.

Saga Halloween virtual pet costume contest raises funds to spay/neuter and vaccinate 100 animals
On Sunday, October 31st, Saga Humane Society in San Pedro Town held their 17th Annual Halloween Pet Costume Contest. This year, due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, it was held virtually, offering pet owners the chance the win fabulous prizes. The annual event also serves as a fundraiser for the non-profit organization. Thanks to everyone's participation and other donations, this year's function raised a little over BZ$10,000. These funds will help Saga in their campaign to spay/neuter and vaccinate 100 dogs and cats.
