The improper disposal of garbage has long been an issue on Ambergris Caye with illegal dumping resulting in unsightly litter across large portions of the island, polluting our water system, marring our natural beauty and threatening the health of our environment.

Island’s biggest clean up campaign underway: Help still needed!

Over 700 bags and 40 truck loads of garbage have been collected primarily from the San Pedrito and Boca del Rio Areas. The cleanup campaign continues on Sunday, November 11th and Monday, Novemver 12th. Island residents are urged to come out and support this cause to get the island clean.

San Pedro Chapter of Justices of the Peace elect new Board of Directors

After nominations and voting, the new board consists of Clive Welsh remaining as president, Walter Zepeda as the new vice president, Maria Elena Alamilla as treasurer, Ana Ico as secretary, while the new executive members include Delia Pere and Grant Crimmins.

Held at the conference room of the Sunbreeze Hotel, some of the topics discussed included the increase in tourism police, foot patrols, and police personnel on the island, 24-hour police manned substations, the introduction of a water-taxi boat manifest, better lighting on the roads, reducing gun-related issues and gang violence.
