San Pedro BTIA inaugurates new Tourism Information Center

Following a soft opening in March, the San Pedro Belize Tourism Industry Association Chapter (SPBTIA) inaugurated its Tourism Information Center (TIC) on Friday, April 29th. The opening hosted a group of invited guests, including Belize Tourism Industry Association board members and management, and representatives from the Belize Tourism Board in a ribbon-cutting ceremony officiating the operations of the TIC.

With support from Sandy Point Realty and the San Pedro Town Council, the San Pedro Belize Tourism Industry Association Chapter has opened a Tourism Information Center in the heart of San Pedro Town. Located between the House of Culture and the San Pedro Artisans Market on Angel Coral Street across from the Saca Chispa Field, the information center will provide walk-in visitors with tourism-related information and services provided by their local members.

San Pedro House of Culture to remain closed; staff terminated

The island’s venue for exhibits and traditional events, The San Pedro House of Culture, will remain closed indefinitely. This is attributed to the pandemic and the reportedly limited finances to support the house of culture. As a result, and after working on reduced salaries for months, the island staff was terminated.

On the eve of the traditional ‘El Gran Carnaval de San Pedro,’ a photography exhibition was held at the San Pedro House of Culture (SPHC) on Friday, February 21st.

The San Pedro House of Culture (SPHC), along with the National Institute of Culture and History (NICH) and United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Belize held a #RefugiARTe Exhibition at the SPHC office on Friday, March 15th.

Island Preschoolers host Art Exhibition in San Pedro Town

As part of Child Stimulation Month activities, island preschoolers organized an art exhibit under this year’s theme: “Hug me, Listen to me, Read with me, Help me Grow!” at the San Pedro House of Culture (SPHC) from Wednesday, March 13th to Thursday, March 14th. Participants included the San Pedro Preschool, ABC Preschool, Isla Bonita Preschool, San Pedro Shining Stars Preschool, Brighter Tomorrow Preschool, Holy Cross Preschool and Little Angel’s Preschool.

SPHC host ‘El Gran Carnaval de San Pedro’ exhibit

The annual display showcases the traditional “El Gran Carnaval de San Pedro (The Great Carnival of San Pedro)” which traditionally takes place three days before Lent.
